Rustins Quick Dry Textured Decking Oil

Rustins Quick Drying Textured Decking Oil contains unique texturing agents to improve the slip resistance of wooden decking in wet and dry conditions. The oil nourishes and protects the wood, as well as offering protection against harmful UV rays. Suitable for all composite, hardwood and softwood decking boards and steps. Can also be used for wooden garden furniture and other exterior woodwork. Easy to apply and allows the natural beauty of the wood to show through. Ideal for both domestic and commercial decked areas.

Ensure that wooden decking is clean, dry and free from dust, dirt and other surface contaminants before oiling.

New Decking Preparation

For all bare wood decking, including pressure treated, tanalised and preservative impregnated decking boards.

New Softwood Decking

1. Treat with a suitable, wax-free exterior wood preservative prior to application of Rustins Decking Oil for the best protection
2. If possible, preserve all sides, including edges and end grain, prior to installation
3. Sweep the decking with a stiff broom or decking brush to remove all traces of surface dirt and debris
4. Use a suitable decking cleaner if required before applying decking oil

New Hardwood Decking

New hardwood decking usually requires a period of weathering to allow the surface grain to open up. This allows for better absorption of the decking oil. Check the decking manufacturer's guidelines on how long decking should be left to weather before treating.

Old Decking Preparation

1. Ensure that any previous coatings such as paints, varnishes and stains have been removed completely to expose bare wood by either jet washing or using a dedicated decking stripper and remover
2. Old oiled finishes should be cleaned thoroughly with a suitable decking cleaner
3. For decking affected by mould, algae or moss, or to restore the colour of decking that has turned grey or silver over time, use a suitable decking restorer or reviver
4. Treat with a suitable wax-free, exterior wood preservative prior to oiling for best protection
5. If possible, preserve all sides, including edges and end grain, prior to installation
6. Sweep the decking with a stiff broom to remove all traces of surface dirt and debris

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Do not apply if rain is expected.

1. Stir thoroughly before and periodically during use
2. Apply liberally with a clean, synthetic bristle brush
3. Allowing 3 hours between coats
4. Bare wood requires a minimum of 2 coats, softwood or weathered may require further coats
5. Allow 3 hours before use depending on temperature and humidity

Regular Cleaning

To preserve the look and performance of the oiled finish, we recommend that decked areas are swept with a stiff broom or decking brush on a regular basis. If signs of mould or algae appear, use an appropriate decking cleaner.

Deep Cleaning

Scuff marks, stains, grease and other surface contaminates can normally be cleaned with a decking cleaner. Stubborn marks and stains may require a light sanding and a thin application of decking oil to restore the affected area.

Maintenance

To maintain the finish or if the finish begins to look worn, simply re-apply a thin coat of Rustins Quick Dry Textured Decking Oil to the decking, following the 'Preparation' and 'Application' instructions above.
