Overview

Overview

Back

Decking end grain, if left unprotected, will allow water to soak in, leading to rot and decay. Ronseal Decking End Grain Protector is highly waterproof, helping to lock out the water that can damage wooden decking.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Make sure it is a warm, dry day, above 10°C and that rain is not forecast. Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry and free from dust, loose dirt and any other surface contaminants which may interfere with the penetration of the End Grain Protector.

Application

Application

Back

Always do a small test area before beginning any project to assess results. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Stir thoroughly before and during use.

  1. Apply Ronseal Decking End Grain Protector liberally to cross cut end grains of the timber with a good quality brush
  2. If you get any on the top of the boards, wipe it off with a clean, lint-free cloth
  3. Allow to cure for a maximum of 4 hours, then apply a second coat
  4. Allow to fully dry for 24 hours after last coat has been applied before over-coating with a decking oil or stain

Cleaning Equipment

Remove as much protector as possible from brushes, then clean with warm, soapy water. Do not empty any leftover Protector into drains or watercourses.

Finishing

Finishing

Back

Once dry, decking can be overcoated with a suitable Decking Stain or Decking Oil.

East to apply and dries quickly
Much thinner than I expected and tends to run. Easier to clean up compared to oil based products. Only time will tell if it works.

Does exactly what it says on the tin 👍
Certainly makes a difference & stops the grain soaking up moisture. Used 4 tins of this stuff on my decking project & would definitely buy again.

As with all Ronseal products it does exactly what it says on the tin
If you are laying a deck then this product is essential to help seal and protect the engrain against moisture ingress and wet rot.
