Overview

Overview

Back

Ronseal Woodworm Killer contains permethrin, an effective woodworm killer, which will prevent the infestation and spread of woodworm, thus avoiding the associated damage.

Insect attack can be recognised by small round holes on the surface of the timber and the gritty bore-dust that is left behind. These woodworm holes are most likely to be found near joints or on the undersides or backs of furniture. Whilst holes indicate that wood beetles have emerged, it is likely that woodworm larvae remain in the wood.

Please Note: This product is not suitable for use on areas used for the preparation and consumption of food.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure the wood to be treated is clean, dry and free from dust, dirt and any other surface contaminants.

  • Any previous finishes such as paint, stain and varnish must be completely removed
  • Special precautions should be taken when removing pre-1960's paint surfaces over wood as they may contain harmful lead

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project, to test product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Do not apply in conditions of high humidity or if rain is likely before the product has fully dried.

  1. Shake the tin well before and periodically during use
  2. Ensure that appropriate protective clothing and face masks are used
  3. Ideally, wood to be treated should be moved outside or treated in a well ventilated space
  4. Apply by natural bristle brush or low pressure spray system
  5. Treat all faces, ends and joints paying particular attention to the end grain, corners and crevices
  6. Ensure all holes and surfaces are saturated
  7. Allow 1-2 hours between coats
  8. For prevention of attack by wood destroying insects, apply 3 coats
  9. For eradication of wood destroying insects, apply 3 coats

Touch dry in approximately 1 hours under normal conditions.

Finishing

Finishing

Back

Definitely yes
Work great, almost no odour and dries very quick. I used it with a sprayer which made application really easy and swift even though I misjudged the amount needed, think I'll need 3 cans since I decided to treat the whole vanity as prevention and not just the affected areas. Dires with no residue so no need to fuss about what finish to apply at the end.

Excellent product and the cheapest in the area so great value Member of staff was extremely helpful and friendly with good advice so will be using the store again
Seems to have stopped the woodworm in its tracks. Very smelly though so you need to ventilate the area.

I haven't had wood worm yet
Easy to apply with a garden pump sprayer for great coverage. It doesn't take forever to dry either, so you can get on with a finishing product. I use it as a preventative measure, so it's hard to rate it really as I'll never know if I would've got woodworm or not, but for the price it's a a no-brainer for piece of mind.
