Preparation

Preparation

Back

For best results, ensure floors to be painted are sound, clean, dry and free from dust, dirt, grease or any other surface contaminants.

  1. Remove all loose or flaking paint by sanding or scraping back to a sound surface
  2. Special precautions should be taken when preparing pre-1960s painted surfaces as they may contain harmful lead
  3. Where necessary, wash floors to remove grease, oil spots or other residues, then rinse with clean water and allow to dry fully
  4. On new wood, treat softwoods and knots with a knotting solution to help block resin and staining, then prime with Little Greene Aluminium Wood Primer before finishing
  5. For concrete floors, brush or vacuum away dust; if power-floated, prepare with acid etch or vacuum blasting to create a key
  6. Fill any cracks, gaps or surface defects with a suitable Filler and sand smooth once dry
  7. Rub down prepared areas to create a consistent surface, then wipe with a damp, lint-free cloth to remove dust
  8. Always ensure timber moisture content is below 15% before painting to avoid blistering or premature coating failure

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times and ensure the paint is only used in well-ventilated areas.

  1. Stir the paint thoroughly before and periodically during use
  2. Apply 2-3 coats of Little Greene Intelligent Floor Paint using a high-quality synthetic brush, Paint Roller or spray equipment
  3. Allow up to 4 hours drying time between coats, depending on conditions
  4. For significant colour changes or on porous surfaces, additional coats may be required
  5. For the best results, maintain a wet edge during application and keep final brush or roller strokes in the same direction

For best colour consistency, purchase sufficient paint for the whole project, including enough for future touch-ins.

Aftercare

Aftercare

Back

To keep your painted floors looking their best and ensure long-lasting protection, follow these aftercare steps:

  1. Allow the paint to fully cure for several days before placing heavy furniture or subjecting the floor to regular foot traffic
  2. For light surface marks or dust, clean with a soft cloth or sponge and a dilute solution of mild washing-up liquid
  3. Avoid harsh abrasives, scrubbing pads, or polishing cleaners, as these can damage the semi-gloss finish and create a slippery surface
  4. When vacuuming nearby areas, always use a soft brush attachment to prevent scuffs or marking on the painted floor
  5. For touch-ups or repairs, lightly sand the area, prime if necessary, and repaint from break to break with one or two coats for a consistent finish
