Preparation

Preparation

Back

For the best results, prepare all surfaces carefully before applying Little Greene Interior Oil Eggshell to achieve a smooth and durable finish.

  1. Remove any flaking, peeling or unstable coatings using a scraper, sander or suitable paint remover
  2. When working on older coatings applied before the 1960s, take special care as these may contain harmful lead
  3. Fill cracks or imperfections with a suitable filler, sand smooth, and wipe away dust before painting
  4. Seal knots in softwood with Aluminium Wood Primer; resinous hardwoods should also be treated before priming
  5. Sand existing paintwork with medium grade paper to provide a good key for adhesion
  6. On plastics, clean thoroughly, abrade to provide a key, and prime with a suitable primer for best performance
  7. Clean surfaces with a mild detergent solution such as sugar soap, rinse thoroughly and allow to dry
  8. For bare or corroded metals, remove rust and prime with two coats of a suitable primer

Application

Application

Back

Always test a small area before starting your project to confirm colour, finish and suitability. Follow the instructions on the tin for best results.

Apply only in well-ventilated areas and avoid painting when temperatures fall below 8°C.

For consistent colour and finish, purchase enough paint for the entire project, keeping extra for future touch-ups.

  1. Stir Little Greene Interior Oil Eggshell thoroughly before and during use to maintain even colour and consistency
  2. Apply 2 full coats using a high-quality natural bristle brush, foam roller, or by spray application
  3. Maintain a wet edge during application and finish with smooth, even strokes to prevent lap marks
  4. Allow a minimum of 16 hours between coats, depending on temperature and ventilation
  5. Lightly rub down between coats to remove dust and ensure a professional finish
  6. For significant colour changes, an additional coat or use of a primer may be required

Aftercare

Aftercare

Back

With the right aftercare, surfaces painted with Little Greene Interior Oil Eggshell will keep their appearance and durability for years to come.

  • Allow the paint to fully cure before carrying out any cleaning or maintenance
  • Remove everyday dust with a soft cloth, paper towel, or vacuum using a brush attachment
  • For light marks, gently wipe with a damp sponge or cloth and a mild washing-up liquid solution
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh scrubbing as these may damage the low sheen finish
  • For a uniform look when repairing, repaint full panels or sections rather than attempting spot touch-ups
  • Bookshelves, doors and other frequently handled areas may benefit from a very light application of wax polish for added long-term protection

Yes, it is hard-wearing, flexible and water-resistant, with Class 1 scrub resistance for long-lasting performance in busy areas.

Can it be used in kitchens and bathrooms?

While water-resistant, oil finishes may yellow in low-light, humid environments. For kitchens or bathrooms, Intelligent Eggshell or Intelligent Satin are often recommended alternatives.

Can it be cleaned?

Yes, surfaces can be cleaned with a damp cloth or sponge and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners or heavy scrubbing to protect the finish.

Is it available in all colours?

Yes, Little Greene Interior Oil Eggshell is available in the full Little Greene colour palette, giving you a wide choice of shades.

Will this paint yellow over time?

As with all solvent-based paints, some yellowing may occur over time, particularly in areas without natural light. This is more noticeable in white shades.
