Preparation

Preparation

Back

For the best results, surfaces should be clean, dry, sound and free from grease or flaking paint before painting.

  1. Repair imperfections and sand surfaces smooth
  2. Seal knots in softwood with knotting compound
  3. Allow new plaster to fully dry before painting and apply a thinned coat as a primer if needed
  4. Treat bare or corroded metal with two coats of Little Greene Intelligent ASP primer
  5. Thoroughly sand high-sheen or degraded surfaces before applying

Application

Application

Back

Always carry out a small test patch before beginning your project to confirm the paint's suitability, shade accuracy, and the finish you'll achieve. Refer to the guidance printed on the tin throughout application.

Ensure the room is well ventilated during use and drying.

For consistent results, make sure you have enough paint from the same batch to complete the job, with extra kept aside for later touch-ups if needed.

  1. Stir the paint thoroughly before use and occasionally during application to keep colour and texture uniform
  2. Apply 2-3 coats of Little Greene Intelligent Matt Emulsion with a high-quality synthetic brush, roller, or spray equipment
  3. Allow between 1 and 4 hours for each coat to dry, depending on room temperature and airflow
  4. On new plaster, dilute the first coat with 5-25% clean water before applying full coats
  5. Where there is a strong colour change, further coats may be required for best coverage

Aftercare

Aftercare

Back

To keep your Intelligent Matt Emulsion looking beautiful and performing at its best, follow these simple aftercare steps:

  1. Allow the paint to fully cure for 3-7 days before subjecting walls to heavy use or cleaning
  2. For light marks or everyday dirt, wipe gently with a soft sponge or cloth and a dilute solution of mild washing-up liquid
  3. Avoid strong abrasives, harsh cleaners, or scrubbing pads, as these can damage the matt surface
  4. Maintain good ventilation in high-moisture areas, such as kitchens and bathrooms, to minimise condensation build-up
  5. When vacuuming nearby surfaces, use a soft brush attachment to prevent scuffing painted walls
  6. For touch-ups or repairs, lightly sand the area, apply primer if needed, and repaint from edge to edge ("break to break") for the most seamless result

F.A.Q.

F.A.Q.

Back
Is Little Greene Intelligent Matt Emulsion washable?

Yes. It is rated Class 1 for scrub resistance, meaning the finish can be wiped and cleaned without damage.

Can Little Greene Intelligent Matt Emulsion be used in kitchens and bathrooms?

Yes. It is durable and water-resistant, making it ideal for high-moisture areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, and utility rooms. Absolute Matt Emulsion is better suited to dry rooms like bedrooms and living spaces.

Can I use Intelligent Matt Emulsion on other surfaces besides walls?

Yes. It can be applied to ceilings, woodwork, panelling, radiators, tiles, and even glass for a consistent flat matt look across your home.

How many coats of Intelligent Matt are recommended?

Most surfaces require 2 coats, though a third may be needed when making a strong colour change or painting over porous surfaces.

Does Intelligent Matt Emulsion need a primer?

It is self-priming on most surfaces, but bare metal, plastics, and large colour changes benefit from using Little Greene Intelligent ASP primer.

How long does Intelligent Matt take to dry?

It is touch dry in around 30 minutes and ready to recoat in 1-4 hours depending on temperature, ventilation, and surface conditions.

Is Intelligent Matt safe for children's rooms?

Yes. It meets EN71-3 toy safety standards and has an A+ indoor air quality rating, making it suitable for nurseries and bedrooms.

What sizes and colours are available?

Intelligent Matt comes in 1L, 2.5L, 5L, and 10L tins, and is available in every colour from the Little Greene collection.

How should I clean brushes and rollers after use?

Clean all tools immediately with clean water. Avoid leaving brushes or rollers soaking, as this can reduce their performance.
