Preparation

Preparation

Back

For best results, make sure all surfaces are clean, dry, sound and free from dust, grease, or other surface contaminants before painting.

  1. Remove any loose, flaking, or defective paint with a scraper, sander, or suitable paint and varnish remover
  2. Take extra care when preparing pre-1960s paint surfaces, as they may contain harmful lead
  3. Wash down surfaces if required to eliminate dirt, grease, or chalky residues
  4. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow to dry completely
  5. Fill any cracks, holes, or imperfections with a suitable Filler and sand smooth
  6. Lightly sand prepared areas and wipe with a damp, lint-free cloth to remove all traces of dust
  7. Apply a suitable plaster sealer to any surfaces that remain powdery after preparation

Application

Application

Back

Always carry out a test area before starting to ensure colour accuracy and adhesion. Stir thoroughly before use and make sure the surface is correctly prepared with the right primer. Estate Eggshell should be applied in two full coats, allowing adequate drying time between each. In cases of a strong colour change, additional coats may be needed for full coverage and depth of colour.

  1. Apply evenly to interior walls, woodwork, metal or radiators, keeping a wet edge to prevent visible joins
  2. On bare plaster, begin with a diluted mist coat before applying full coats
  3. When painting walls, use overlapping strokes and finish in one direction to minimise roller or brush marks
  4. For trim and woodwork, use a quality synthetic brush and work with the grain for a smooth result
  5. When using a roller, choose a medium pile sleeve for even coverage with minimal stippling
  6. Spray application can be used where suitable - apply several fine coats, allowing each to dry before continuing
  7. Allow at least 4 hours between coats and avoid painting in temperatures below 10°C

Aftercare

Aftercare

Back

To keep your painted surfaces looking their best, follow these simple aftercare steps:

  1. Allow the paint to fully cure for several days before subjecting it to heavy use or cleaning
  2. For light marks or surface dirt, gently wipe with a soft cloth or sponge using a dilute solution of mild washing-up liquid
  3. Avoid using harsh abrasives or scrubbing pads, as these can damage the matt finish
  4. When cleaning adjacent areas, such as skirting boards, use a soft vacuum attachment to avoid marking painted walls
  5. For touch-ups or repairs, lightly sand the area, spot-prime if required, and reapply paint from "break to break" to achieve a seamless finish

What finishes and colours are available?

Absolute Matt Emulsion is available in all Little Greene colour ranges, from timeless heritage shades to modern contemporary tones, giving you complete choice for your project.

How should I clean brushes and rollers after use?

Clean application tools immediately after painting with warm soapy water. Never leave brushes or rollers soaking in water as this may damage them.
