Preparation

Preparation

Back

For best results, make sure all surfaces are sound, clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, or contaminants before painting.

  1. Remove any loose, flaking, or defective paint with a scraper, sander, or suitable Paint and Varnish Remover
  2. Wash down with a mild detergent or Barrettine Sugar Soap Concentrate sugar soap solution, rinse thoroughly, and allow to dry
  3. Sand glossy or previously painted surfaces to provide a uniform key, feathering edges smoothly
  4. On new wood, seal knots with a suitable Colron Knotting Solution before priming
  5. Prime bare softwood with Little Greene Intelligent ASP; resinous or oily hardwoods may require Aluminium Wood Primer for best adhesion
  6. On metal, remove all rust and scale, then prime bare steel or iron with two coats of Intelligent ASP
  7. On plastics, clean thoroughly and abrade lightly to provide a key before priming
  8. Ensure timber moisture content is below 15% before painting to avoid premature failure

Application

Application

Back

Always test a small area before starting any project to confirm colour, finish, and suitability. Stir thoroughly before and during use, and follow the manufacturer's instructions at all times. Use only in well-ventilated areas.

  1. Apply 2-3 full coats of Little Greene Intelligent Gloss using a high-quality synthetic brush, short-nap roller, or spray system
  2. Maintain a wet edge and keep final strokes in the same direction for the best finish
  3. Allow 6 hours drying time between coats, depending on temperature and ventilation
  4. For intricate items or in hot/dry conditions, extend open time by adding up to 10-15% clean water
  5. On new wood, apply over a suitable primer and undercoat before finishing with Intelligent Gloss
  6. On metal, prime with a suitable primer before applying topcoats
  7. Lightly denib between coats to remove dust nibs and achieve a smooth, professional-looking finish

For best colour consistency, purchase enough paint for the whole project, including extra for future touch-ups.

Aftercare

Aftercare

Back

To keep your painted surfaces looking their best, follow these simple aftercare steps:

  • Allow the paint to fully cure for 3-7 days before subjecting surfaces to heavy use or cleaning
  • Clean light marks or dirt with lukewarm water and a mild detergent using a soft cloth or sponge
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners, strong chemicals, or scrubbing pads that could damage the high-gloss finish
  • Let radiators cool completely before wiping to prevent polishing or streaking
  • For repairs, lightly sand the area, spot-prime if needed, and repaint break to break for a seamless finish
