For the best results, ensure surfaces to be coated are sound, clean, dry and free from all defective or poorly adhering material such as dirt, grease, paint or adhesives. If needed, clean surface using an appropriate cleaning solution.

  1. Take special precautions during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead
  2. Sand all edges of remaining coating until smooth
  3. Seal new plaster, which has a polished or powdery finish, using Zinsser Gardz
  4. Using an 80 - 100 grit sandpaper, lightly sand exterior timber to remove loose or weathered wood fibres and mill glaze
  5. Clean as much of the existing stain as possible, prior to priming
  6. Remove and treat any mould and mildew on interior surfaces using Zinsser Mould Killer and Remover
  7. Fill any nail holes and imperfections with a suitable multi-purpose filler and spot prime the area
  8. Spot prime any knots and resin streaks using Zinsser B-I-N

Can this be used over painted bathroom tiles around the bath before sealer?

Absolutely! Simply sand all edges of the remaining coating until back to a smooth, sound surface and thoroughly clean them using Zinsser Universal Degreaser and Cleaner before using the Bullseye 1-2-3.

How long do I have to wait to have a shower after painting the bathroom with 1-2-3?

This product is touch dry in 30 mins and recoat able in 1 hour. It is fully cured in 7 days. As it is not a top-coat meant to have durability and resistance, we recommend leaving it until the surface has had a topcoat applied.

Should Zinsser 1-2-3 be diluted when applying over new plaster?

This product is not designed to be diluted. You may wish to apply two coats to new plaster if necessary.

Is this good in bathrooms and on dusty surfaces? Is it better than Peel Stop?

This product can be used in a bathroom to cover stains and protect against mould etc. However, if you have a dusty surface, Peel Stop would be the best product as it is specifically designed for this type of job, extending the life of faulty substrates and binding them.

I'm looking for a product to cover badly nicotine stained walls and ceilings. Would Bullseye be suitable?

We recommend Zinsser Cover Stain for this issue.

Is Bullseye 1-2-3 alkali resistant and can it be used on an internal wall?

We recommend Zinsser Gardz as the best option for Alkali resistance.

Will this cover house exterior walls (white) and stop green mould coming through to avoid having to repaint with masonry paint each year?

We would instead recommend cleaning the surface with a strong multicide such as Zinsser Mould Killer and Remover, applying Zinsser Cover Stain and finish with Zinsser AllCoat Exterior (Solvent Based)

Can I use this on bathroom tiles?

The Zinsser Bullseye 1-2-3 is fine for use on interior and exterior ceramic tiles.

Can Bullseye be stored outdoors in our balcony?

This is a water-based product so should be stored indoors at temperatures between 5 & 25 degrees.

Can this be put onto silicone then painted over?

This product cannot be applied onto silicone as silicone is repellent and will just repel the Zinsser. But it the Zinsser Bullseye 1-2-3 can be painted over when it has been applied to the correct substrate.

Can 1-2-3 be spray applied?

No, this product is not sprayable. Apply Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 with a good quality natural or synthetic brush, microfibre roller or applicator pad.

Will Zinsser Bullseye stop chalking?

We would normally recommend Zinsser Peel Stop for binding chalky surfaces.

What is the difference between 1-2-3 Bullseye and 1-2-3 Bullseye Plus?

They are both very similar products which act as a stain killer, primer, and sealer. The Zinsser Bullseye 1-2-3 Plus offers a rust resistance guarantee so can be very handy when using over some metals. Ferrous metals generally have a high carbon content, which as a result, make them vulnerable to rust when exposed to the elements. As the Bullseye products are water-based they will be suspectable to this.

Can you use Bullseye on tiles without using sandpaper first?

The Zinsser Bullseye 1-2-3 adheres to glossy surfaces without pre-sanding or de-glossing. You would need to ensure that the surface is clean, dry and free from any contaminants. A treatment of Zinsser Universal Degreaser and Cleaner is advised.

How much will a litre cover?

You will get roughly 10m² covered with one coat with a litre.

I want to paint my summer house would Bullseye 1-2-3 cover the knots in the wood?

We would recommend spot priming any knots and resin streaks using Zinsser B-I-N. .

Can I use Bulls Eye on mirrored furniture?

We would recommend using Zinsser B-I-N instead for best results then overcoating with a suitable paint.

Can Bulls eye 1-2-3 be used on gloss laminate wardrobes and if so, does it have to be sanded first?

Although the Zinsser Bullseye 1-2-3 can adhere to glossy surfaces without sanding or de-glossing, it is always advisable to create a key for best chance of adhesion and a long-lasting result. You would also need to ensure that the surface is clean, dry and free from any contaminants.

Will Zinsser Bullseye 1-2-3 paint stick to my PVC door?

Absolutely, the Bullseye primer can used on such a wide range of substrates including glossy or smooth surfaces like PVC.

Bought to use on top of Peel-Stop and under All-Coat Exterior. So far, all good. Sticking with Zinsser means that you are pretty sure what can be used with what without problems.

For the price I don't think I would have done much better
Had to raise the floor level in a 600 x 600 mm area to allow a new cooker to be fitted. This meant laying porcelain tile over porcelain tile. Needed 2 coats of bonding primer to get the tile adhesive to stick to both. Expensive for what it was but cheaper than anywhere else who only supply in litre cans.

Excellent product
I bought this to cover dark navy paint. I knew I needed a good primer and was familiar with this brand. It did not disappoint. Excellent coverage: not the cheapest, but absolutely worth the cost.
