Zinsser B-I-N is an ultimate, multi-surface coating which blocks powerful odours such as smoke, pet odours and nicotine. It offers excellent adhesion to most surfaces without the need of sanding and boasts superior stain blocking qualities on interior surfaces such as, ceilings, walls, doors, furniture, and other painted surfaces. It can also be used for spot priming exterior stains such as, graffiti, rust, smoke, grease, asphalt, and water stains. Perfect for use as a primer on interior surfaces such as, wood, metal, drywall, plaster, glass, tiles and more. Seals unpainted and porous surfaces and can be used to prime pre-existing wall coverings to hide strong colours or patterns.
For the best results, ensure surfaces to be coated are sound, clean and dry, and free from all defective or poorly adhering material such as dirt, grease, paint or adhesives. If needed, clean surface using an appropriate ammoniated cleaning solution. Never use tri sodium phosphate-based cleaners.
Always do a test area before starting any project to check product suitability and effectiveness. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.
Only apply at temperatures ranging between -1°C and 32°C and a relative humidity of no more than 70%.
Clean brushes and rollers immediately after use, using 1 part ammonia to 3 parts water. Any spillages should be cleaned up using denatured alcohol. For removing dried paint on brushes and rollers, use Zinsser B-I-N Brush Cleaner and Restorer
B-I-N is a shellac-based primer and sealer. The Aqua does a similar job but has a water-based formula. The Aqua has a very low (trace) VOC and can be used throughout interior and exterior projects.
This can be used on bare wood which you intend to paint. It would seal the timber, ensuring the timber resins don't bleed through the coating. Please note- for exterior timber, we only recommend using this as a spot primer/ sealer as it isn't flexible enough to be put over the whole timber surface.
The Zinsser B-I-N is fine for use on interior ceramic tiles.
Werecommend cleaning the surface with a strong multicide such as Zinsser Mould Killer and Remover to eradicate the problem and kill the mould at the source, applying Zinsser Cover Stain and finish with Zinsser Perma-White Interior
This product can be used outside but only for spot priming. It doesn't offer enough flexibility to applied to a larger surface.
The B-I-N is not comparable to the Peel Stop as they do separate jobs. The Peel Stop acts as a glue that seals and holds together brittle and flaky substrates to help prolong the life of the surface. If you are using Peel Stop we recommend using Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 or Zinsser Cover Stain, rather than B-I-N for priming after use.
The recoat time on the B-I-N is 45 Minutes.
We wouldn't recommend this as this product is not flexible enough to cope with the movement of rope or wicker.
Yes absolutely, the Zinsser B-I-N can be applied to a wide range of surfaces including plastics. Take care to remove any soap or grime before application by using Zinsser Universal Degreaser and Cleaner and where possible, provide a slight key for the best performance.
There are a few variables which could be causing this. It could be that the surface is still damp so that the product isn't able to take form on the stain itself. If there are contaminants, the products struggle to adhere, and the stains can come back through.
Stop the water sources to allow the issue to dry out thoroughly. Ensure the area is well cleaned with no contaminates and once dried out, you may wish to try Zinsser Cover Stain.
As a shellac-based primer and sealer, the Zinsser B-I-N will evaporate the compounds into the air until it has fully cured (usually 1-3 days) If you have applied a solvent-based paint over this, it is likely this which you can smell. Alternatively, a breathable paint can also allow the odour to escape. If the smell is coming from B-I-N, this should disappear soon as the solvents cure.
