Preparation

Preparation

Back

For the best results, ensure surfaces to be painted are sound, clean and dry (new surfaces particularly must be fully dry) and free from all dust, dirt, grease and wax.

New or Bare Wood

  • Any surface defects should be filled with an appropriate wood filler
  • Where a strong colour change is needed an appropriate wood primer, such as Dulux Trade Undercoat may be required

Previously Painted Wood

  • Thoroughly rub down previously painted surfaces, using wet flatting methods where possible, then wipe off all traces of sanding dust with a damp, lint-free cloth or with a vacuum cleaner
  • Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

For best colour consistency, purchase sufficient paint for the entire project, including touch-in at a later date if required. As with all solvent-based paints, do not apply at temperatures below 5°C (as recommended by British Standard BS 6150). Stir thoroughly before use. This product should not be sprayed.

  1. Apply Dulux Satinwood paint with a synthetic brush or microfibre roller only
  2. Allow 16-24 hours between coats
  3. Apply additional coats as required
