Overview

Overview

Back

Barrettine Wood Reviver is a water-based gel that restores hard and soft woods to their natural tone before refinishing. Wood Reviver is suitable for both rough sawn and smooth timber that is greyed by harmful UV rays or weather damaged. Ideal for windows, sheds, fences, decking and outdoor wooden furniture.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure that surfaces to be treated are clean and free from all surface coatings and contaminates before treating. Barrettine Wood Reviver may remove some existing wood finishes, however if surface coatings remain, use Paint Panther Paint and Varnish Remover or Barrettine PeelAway to remove oil, paint, varnish or wax. A test area is recommended before wider application.

  • Do not use a pressure washer to clean wood prior to application of Wood Reviver.
  • Protect plants as product splashes may cause localised leaf browning.
  • Avoid contact with calcareous stones e.g. limestone/marble as damage may occur.
  • Direct/prolonged application to metal fixings (especially zinc) should be avoided to prevent potential discolouration/damage. If the product does make contact, rinse thoroughly with water using a damp cloth.
  • Wear protective clothing and keep children and pets away from treated areas until the area has been rinsed.

Application

Application

Back

Apply in weather conditions between 5-30°C, out of direct sunlight. Before applying Barrettine Wood Reviver, wet the wood with water. This will aid absorption and yield greater results.

  1. Apply generously to all visible sides of wood/panels in the direction of the wood grain using a brush or roller to areas 2m at a time to prevent the wood from drying out. If the wood does dry, repeat wetting by spraying with water or wipe with a damp cloth to rehydrate
  2. Leave the Wood Reviver to work for 15-30 min
  3. Agitate by rubbing the surface with a cloth or non-metal brush dampened with water.
  4. Finally rinse again thoroughly. Repeat the process as necessary.

As a precaution against inactive mould spores use Barrettine Mould and Mildew Cleaner. Wood restoration and the colour change may not be fully visible until the wood has dried. This can take up to 24 hours.

Please note: The appearance of the revived wood will vary depending on wood type, age and condition. A test area is always recommended before wider application. A light sanding may be required to restore a smooth finish.

Finishing

Finishing

Back

After treatment of Barrettine Wood Reviver, it is vital that a wood preservative and/or top coat is applied to prevent further UV/weather damage. It is always advised to use a coloured finish where possible as these will have greater UV protection than clear options.

Depending on the area treated, any suitable Barrettine top coat can be applied, including, Barrettine Premier Wood Preserver, Barrettine Wood Protective Treatment, Barrettine UV Decking Oil, Barrettine Garden Furniture Oil or Barrettine Teak Oil for hardwood garden furniture.

Good for some jobs/Not so good for others
I used this to revive a horizontal window sill. Worked great! Then I moved onto doing the vertical “silvered cladding” all around the house. But it’s been a nightmare and made the job much harder than it would have been if I’d just sanded the silver off the wood. When using the product you have to rub it off using water and a stiff nylon brush. But as much as I tried to “go with the grain” brushing from bottom of cladding to the top….I was left with white raised bits all over the wood and especially around the knots. Consequently, I had to buy a random orbital sander to get rid of all the white bits. I would have achieved the same result had I just gone with the sander in the first place. So for my job I couldn’t recommend it. But my cladding was only 8 years old. For much older woods, where the sander doesn’t get the results you want, or for small jobs (like the windowsill) it might be good.

15 minutes and start to clean off with wire brush and jet wash
I'm using on a big project at the moment and although not the quickest job in the world. The desired finish is amazing. Strips all the old linseed oil and leaves a bare wood ready for staining. I used some sand paper just to clean off the rough bits of wood and its like new wood.

Easy to Use
Used an oil on oak gates that after 2 years had not faired well to the elements. So before re-finishing with Barrettine wood finish needed to fix some bad areas . This product worked well and allowed for a very good finish.

Quite effective, easy to use
Several applications can be needed, but the first one give the most of the results.
