Barrettine Log Cabin Treatment

Ensure surfaces to be treated are clean, dry and free from loose dirt and other surface contaminants.

1. Repellent coatings such as paints, varnishes and coating type stains must be fully removed by sanding or using Paint Panther Paint and Varnish Remover
2. Sweep the surface with a stiff broom or brush to remove all traces of surface dirt, debris, mould, algae or fungi
3. Treat areas affected by algae, mould and mildew with Barrettine Mould and Mildew Cleaner or Barrettine Mould and Mildew Spray
4. Treat any existing instances of woodworm with Barrettine Premier Woodworm Killer
5. Fill any gaps or splits in the wood with a suitable wood filler
6. Wooden decking can be cleaned with Barrettine Decking and Patio Cleaner prior to treatment
7. For old or untreated wood, the application of Barrettine Premier Universal Preservative is highly recommended and allow it to dry for a minimum of 48 hours
8. Any freshly cut sawn ends should be thoroughly treated with the above preserver, or alternatively Barrettine End Grain Preserver

Always do a small test area to confirm performance and compatibility before starting any project and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times. Stir thoroughly prior to and during application to ensure a consistent finish.

1. Decant Log Cabin Treatment into a paint kettle or other suitable container
2. Apply liberally, with a good quality natural bristle brush, working the oil into the surface of the wood and brushing in the direction of the wood grain
3. If desired, Barrettine Log Cabin Treatment may be applied by synthetic roller or sprayer, however you should always back brush to ensure even coverage
4. For best results, apply to all external sides of log cabins, sheds and decking prior to construction
5. Remove any excess surface oil to avoid extended drying times
6. Normally, one coat applied liberally with a wide bristle brush is sufficient
7. Should you apply a second coat, it may be applied after 12-24 hours, depending on the type of wood
8. Some hard / oily exotic hard woods such as Iroko, Teak, Idigbo and Cedar may only absorb 1 thin coat
9. For decking boards leave 24-48 hours before subjecting to heavy foot traffic

Cleaning Equipment

After use, brushes can be cleaned with Barrettine Brush Cleaner or Barrettine Paint Brush Restorer.

Regular Cleaning

All treated exterior wood can be cleaned with Barrettine Driveway, Decking and Patio Cleaner.

Maintenance

Barrettine Log Cabin Treatment can be easily maintained with an application of a thin maintenance coat as and when required, usually every couple of years or as a yearly maintenance program, by simply following the Preparation and Application sections above.
