Barrettine Mould & Mildew Cleaner is perfect for use as a pre-treatment for wood that has developed mould, algae or fungi, prior to the application of a wood oil or other wood finish. It also contains cleaning ingredients to remove light surface dirt from plastic, wood and other substrates, but does not contain bleach.
Before applying Barrettine Mould and Mildew Cleaner, remove as much surface dirt, debris and organic growth as possible with a scraper, stiff brush or broom. For maximum biological effectiveness, it is recommended that this product is applied to dry surfaces.
Always do a small test area before starting any project to confirm performance and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times.
Barrettine Mould & Mildew Cleaner can be applied with a natural bristle brush. It can also be applied with a trigger spray bottle such as a re-used kitchen spray bottle. Any recycled bottle should be thoroughly cleaned before use. Apply at a rate of 5 to 10 meters square per litre, depending on how porous the surface to be treated is. Only use when the surface and ambient air temperature is above 5℃.
Have not been able to use this yet so cannot review, this was recommended so will update once used
Had a shed that had been somewhat unloved for last couple of years... with this cleaner and a tiny bit of elbow grease all the mould and mildew has gone... ready for a couple of coats of stain now. I used a spray to cover the shed and scrubbed the boards then left it about hour then rubbed the deposits of mould off with water and the brush... leave to dry and ready to paint.
Used this to remove algae from treated wood. Left overnight for complete success.
Removes moss etc from wood very effectively
Need to apply a generous amount to get a lather then the mould will begin to disappear.
Our oak porch was covered in black mildew spores which was really spoiling the original look. This cleaner along with a wire brush and wire wool made light work of revealing the beautiful oak underneath. Very pleased.
The mould killer worked better than anticipated.
Needed to clear green growth on pergola prior to retreating. Scraped surface down with steel wool, applied cleaner, left it for day, the dead material turned white but it didn't bother me because I followed up with dark stained treatment. ps I spilled a bit on some moss below and it turned that white too so take care to protect your plants.
Used this to clean up my garden sleepers before staining them. It worked a treat. Easy to apply and would recommend it to anyone. Not much more to say. I will say that the wood-finishes team were a great help, had great prices and fast delivery.
Did the job, but didnt get the deep ingrained white fungus marks off
Fantastic product producing a clean surface to treat!
Needed to clean some very dirty decking - it was absolutely caked in thick black mould and hadn't been touched for about 10 years. Used the more concentrated dose of the product and left it on for about 20 hours. Bit of elbow grease and water and the decking is good as new. Can't ask for more really.
This product worked really well. I was using it on an old railway sleeper that has been left outside for 100 odd years. It cleaned it up really well after two applications
Very straight forward to use with clear instructions - helped clean shed prior to applying a preserving product. Delivered extremely promptly.
Easy & quick to apply. Has done the job I required. Good advice from wood-finishes direct
Difficult to apply without splashing it but it did seem to be absorbed by the wood - time will tell how effective it is as a preservative
Good quality cleaner that has managed to clear a fair mount of build up but can't shift old mould.
Used on Siberian larch to remove site dirt and surface mould. Cleaned majority of timber apart from well impregnated sap stain.
Applied this product to a fence using a car wheel brush, left it for an hour, rinsed down with water....job done. All green traces gone. Would use again.
This was used to make sure of no mould or mildew. I used the bit remaining on some green growth on a fence and it did the trick.
