Zinsser Cover Stain is a quick drying coating for stains caused by fire smoke, water, and nicotine, on interior and exterior surfaces. Ideal for use on interior ceilings, walls, doors, and furniture, and on exterior walls, doors, fascia's, soffits, and railings.
Please Note: When blocking stains caused by water or damp, make sure the original cause of the problem has been rectified.
For the best results, ensure surfaces to be coated are sound, clean, dry and free from all defective or poorly adhering material such as dirt, grease, paint or adhesives. If needed, clean surface using an appropriate ammoniated cleaning solution. Never use tri sodium phosphate based cleaners.
Always do a test area before starting any project to check product suitability and effectiveness. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.
Only apply at temperatures ranging between 5°C and 32°C and a relative humidity of no more than 85%.

We recommend priming the whole area with water damage. Stir before using and try and clean the surface very well before using for the best chance of adhesion.
Once fully dried, Cover Stain can be applied over the top of Zinsser Peel Stop to prime and seal flaking, chalking and peeling surfaces.

It would depend as to what is on the timber at the moment. Cover Stain could be suitable for this project, and it will take both water-based and solvent-based topcoats. For bare wood, we recommend applying Zinsser B-I-N instead as this helps to seal knots and provides a nice base without any bleed through from tannins. The Zinsser Cover Stain is a solvent-based stain blocking primer and sealer with excellent opacity and covering properties. It does not have any active ingredients to prevent mould growth.
