Overview

Overview

Back

Zinsser AllCoat Exterior Satin (WB) is a high quality exterior paint for long lasting protection on surfaces such as wood, concrete, masonry, metal, cladding, UPVC and much more. A self priming paint which can be applied to previously painted surface without the need for sanding, including surfaces coated with bitumen, tar varnish and creosote. A low maintenance coating offering a 15 year lifetime guarantee.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

To get the best results, ensure surfaces to be painted are sound, clean and dry (new surfaces particularly must be fully dry), and free from all defective or poorly adhering material, dirt, grease and chalky residue. Sand all edges of remaining coating until smooth.

Previously Painted Surfaces

  1. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead
  2. Remove and treat any mould and mildew on exterior surfaces using Zinsser Mould Killer and Remover
  3. Timber surfaces at risk of decay or insect infestation should be treated with an appropriate Wood Preservative before coating
  4. Extremely hard or glossy surfaces will need to be sanded and degreased before paint application

Bare or New Surfaces

  1. Fill any cracks and nail holes in wood surfaces using an appropriate wood filler
  2. Spot prime any knots and resin streaks using Zinsser B-I-N or Zinsser Cover Stain for resinous woods, such as cedar and redwood
  3. Surfaces such as concrete and masonry must be fully cured for at least 30 days before coating

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Only apply at temperatures ranging between 10°C and 32°C and a relative humidity of no more than 85%.

  1. Stir thoroughly before and periodically during use
  2. Apply evenly and consistently, to maintain a 'wet edge', using a good quality synthetic bristle brush, microfibre roller or low pressure spray gun (Use tip size 0.017 at pressure 2000 - 2500 psi)
  3. It is recommended that 2 coats of Zinsser AllCoat Exterior are applied, with additional coats to areas of high exposure, such as sills and fascia boards
  4. Allow to fully dry for 1 hour between coats

Cleaning Equipment

Clean brushes, rollers and any spillages immediately after use, using warm soapy water.

Is Zinsser AllCoat suitable for a caravan exterior?

Yes absolutely, Zinsser AllCoat is a multi-surface paint and suitable for a wide range of projects.

Can I use Allcoat on polycarbonate roof?

Absolutely, the Zinsser Allcoat is a multi-purpose paint, offering self-priming and adhesion to many surfaces including metal, masonry, plastic, concrete, cladding and more.

Is there any reason I shouldn't use Zinsser AllCoat to paint interior doors and trim? Looking for a good water-based gloss that doesn't yellow.

Exterior paints tend to be rather flexible to cope with the expansion and contraction of the timber. Internal timber doesn't need this flexibility and movement, but it does need more durability than an exterior paint due to a higher risk of wear and tear/ scuffs and scrapes. For a similar quality paint, offering the benefits of multi-surface use with no primer or undercoat needed, take a look at Bedec MSP Multi Surface Paint. This comes in white gloss and is non-yellowing.

What size of Zinsser AllCoat would be needed to paint 2 coats on half glazed composite front door?

A 1L would cover this project. Be sure that the surface is cleaned thoroughly before use by using Zinsser Universal Degreaser and Cleaner.

Ok
Had to get some woodwork painted as quickly as possible and used this instead of the standard dulux satin. It’s got slightly less of a sheen and you have go be careful to work quickly. Don’t use a roller if you can help it as it. I did and ended up having to sand and start again to get a better texture.

Excellent paint
Bought to use on top of Peel-Stop and Bulls Eye 1-2-3 and so far all good. No problems. Paint goes on easily and cleaning up easier than oil based paints. Is it as long-lasting as oil based? Don't know yet, but all the Zinsser paints we have used have lived up to expectations.

Used this on exterior wooden planters. Goes on like a dream, covers well and quick drying. Wish I'd used this years ago, would have saved a lot of time and energy.
