Overview

Overview

Back

Zinsser AllCoat Exterior Satin (SB) is a high quality exterior paint for long lasting protection on surfaces such as wood, concrete, masonry, metal, cladding, UPVC and much more. A self priming paint which can be applied to previously painted surface without the need for sanding, including surfaces coated with bitumen, tar, varnish, and creosote. A low maintenance coating offering a 15 year lifetime guarantee.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

To get the best results, ensure surfaces to be painted are sound, clean and dry (new surfaces particularly must be fully dry), and free from all defective or poorly adhering material, dirt, grease, and chalky residue. Sand all edges of remaining coating until smooth.

Previously Painted Surfaces

  1. The moisture content of the substrate should not exceed 12% prior to coating.
  2. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead
  3. Remove and treat any mould and mildew on exterior surfaces with a suitable mould and mildew cleaner
  4. Timber surfaces at risk of decay or insect infestation should be treated with an appropriate Wood Preservative before coating
  5. Extremely hard or glossy surfaces will need to be sanded and degreased before paint application

Bare or New Surfaces

  1. Fill any cracks and nail holes in wood surfaces using an appropriate wood filler
  2. For all wood surfaces, treat any knots and resin streaks using Zinsser B-I-N and prime the surface using Zinsser Cover Stain
  3. Surfaces such as concrete and masonry must be fully cured for at 30 days before coating
  4. Brick, masonry, concrete, metal and UPVC surfaces should be primed using Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 prior to painting

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Only apply at temperatures ranging between 5°C and 32°C and a relative humidity of no more than 85%.

  1. Stir thoroughly before and periodically during use
  2. Apply evenly and consistently, to maintain a 'wet edge', using a good quality synthetic bristle brush, microfibre roller or low pressure spray gun (Use tip size 0.13 - 0.017 at pressure 1800 - 2400 psi)
  3. It is recommended that 2 coats of Zinsser AllCoat Exterior are applied, with additional coats to areas of high exposure, such as sills and fascia boards
  4. Allow to fully dry between coats: 3 hours for the Satin finish and 16 hours for the Gloss finish

Thinning Guidelines

  • Normal use: Thinning is not required
  • Conventional and Airless spray application (not to be exceeded): Add up to 10% of white spirit

Cleaning Equipment

Clean brushes and rollers immediately after use, using white spirit. For dried on paint, use Zinsser B-I-N Brush Cleaner and Restorer.

Back
Can Zinsser AllCoat solvent-based be thinned?

This product does not normally require thinning. It can be thinned when using a conventional sprayer with Barrettine White Spirit but we would recommend not exceeding 10%

Can I use Allcoat on polycarbonate roof?

Absolutely, the Zinsser Allcoat is a multi-purpose paint, offering self-priming and adhesion to many surfaces including metal, masonry, plastic, concrete, cladding and more.

Can AllCoat be used on block paving?

Although it can be applied to this substrate (after being primed with Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3) AllCoat is not recommended for application to areas under foot.

Can you thin Zinsser AllCoat (SB) Paint? If you do, what can I use?

Thinning of this product is not usually required. If you are planning on using a conventional and airless spray application, you may add up to 10% of white spirit if necessary.

Lasts much longer than most paints!
I have been very impressed with how this solvent based,Zinsser paint clings to difficult wooden surfaces and refuses to peel in spite of the weather. I find it thickens quickly when being applied, so needs to be thinned and the brush refreshed with white spirit, especially in warm weather while painting Georgian window mouldings The long lasting results make the more fiddly application worthwhile!

Great product! Would definitely use again
After some research I decided on the Zinsser Allcoat Exterior Satin (solvent based) paint. Wanted a good quality exterior paint to re-coat a good second hand allotment shed which had previously been treated with a very thin coat of paint. Firstly I wanted a good quality paint and one that would last! and with a 15 year guarantee this paint didn't disappoint. With a big colour range ( I chose a light blue) the paint was easy to stir and went on with great coverage. Overall I'm very impressed and happy with this product. Will definitely use again.

By far the best exterior paint for sash windows
Brilliant coverage, good finish, hard wearing and priced well. Will not use anything else.
