Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure that wooden surfaces are clean, dry and free from surface dirt and debris by brushing with a stiff brush or lightly sanding prior to applying Holzol Weather Stain Tints.

  • Remove all surface coatings such as paint, varnish, wood sealers and stains by sanding or using a suitable paint and varnish remover
  • Thoroughly remove traces of sanding dust, dirt and grease by cleaning freshly sanded or stripped surfaces a cloth dampened with white spirit before oiling.

Application

Application

Back

Always do a small area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Stir thoroughly before and periodically during application to ensure a consistent finish.

  1. Apply a thin, even coat with a natural bristle brush or microfibre roller, in the direction of the wood grain
  2. Allow 10 - 12 hours to dry, then lightly abrade with 220 / 240 silicon carbide abrasive
  3. Apply a second coat of Holzol Weather Stain, as above, or alternatively, for a Natural Satin finish, apply a coat of clear Holzol Weather Oil

Please Note: Using these products in systems outside these guidelines can lead to immediate and latent problems with the integrity of the finish.

Aftercare

Aftercare

Regular Cleaning

For smooth exterior wooden surfaces, this product can be cleaned using a damp lint-free cloth.

Please Note: Oiled wooden surfaces should not be cleaned with household detergents, bleach or aggressive cleaners as these may degrade or breakdown the oiled finish.

Maintenance

If the finish becomes tired looking or worn, abrade with 240 / 320 silicon carbide abrasive and apply a further coat of Holzol Weather Stain, following the Preparation and Application instructions above.

Defiantly worth it
Easy to use and not expensive, the only downside is it doesn't seem to hold up to physical wear and tear al that well, but in terms of weather resistance it seems to do the job. Soaks into the wood well and doesn't seem to build up too much on the surface allowing the texture of the wood to show through
