Earthborn Eggshell No.17 Paint is suitable for use on interior wooden doors, window frames, furniture, shelving, skirting boards and other smooth planed wooden surfaces and more.

Please Note: Earthborn Eggshell No. 17 Paint is not recommended for floors or other heavy-duty surfaces. This product was previously called 'Earthborn Eggshell paint'.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Surfaces to be painted must be clean, dry and free from all traces of dust, dirt and any other surfaces contaminants.

Unfinished or Bare Wood

  1. Old unfinished wood may require a light sanding to remove any build up of dirt, grease and other contaminates
  2. If required, wipe over with a lint-free cloth dampened with methylated spirit to clean and de-grease the wood
  3. Take care to remove all traces of sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner or damp cloth
  4. If painting directly onto untreated wood, use thinned Earthborn Eggshell as a primer (9 parts paint, 1 part water)
  5. Earthborn recommend that surfaces to be painted are primed with Earthborn Multi Purpose Primer

Previously Finished Wood

  1. Previously painted wood should be given a light sanding to provide a key
  2. Surfaces previously painted with an oil-based paint will require a heavier sanding
  3. Take care to remove all traces of sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner or damp cloth
  4. Previously waxed wood will need to be stripped back to clean, bare wood with a suitable wax & polish remover
  5. Previously oiled wood will need to be sanded or scrubbed with white spirit to remove the oil from the wood
  6. Previously waxed and oiled wood should be tested once stripped by wiping over with water. If the water beads or is repelled in any areas, a further attempt to remove the oil or wax should be made
  7. Earthborn recommend that wood is primed with Earthborn Multi Purpose Primer prior to painting

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Because Earthborn Eggshell paint is a natural product, there may be subtle variations in shade between batches. For this reason, avoid starting a new tin in the middle of a project. If a project is likely to require several tins, pour the required number of tins into a single container and mix thoroughly.

Colours within the Earthborn Eggshell range can be inter-mixed to create a variety of colour shades and tones.

  1. Stir thoroughly before and periodically during application.
  2. Apply the paint with a good quality synthetic brush in a thin, even coat
  3. Spread the paint evenly in all directions
  4. Apply 3 coats, allowing 6 to 12 hours drying time between coats

Get Creative

For a Shabby Chic look, try applying a contrasting base coat followed by your chosen top coat colour, then gently sand back areas to reveal the colour beneath.

Regular Cleaning

Surfaces should be wipeable after about 10 days. If marked, gently wipe down with a slightly damp, lint-free cloth. It is also often possible to remove surface marks using a pencil eraser or very fine emery paper.

Maintenance

To maintain the finish, simply apply a fresh coat of Earthborn Eggshell No. 17 Paint as required, following the Application instructions above.

Excellent, I only have good things to say about it
Easy to work with, the coverage is very good and the result is perfect. In fact I'm going to order more. Well worth the price!

Nice paint
Goes on easily. Colour seems slightly different to the claypaint but not noticeable once dry.

Perfect finish, colour as advertised
The quality of the finish perfect, the colour matches very well to what is advertised. Used to paint bannister spindles and the soft matt finish gives a classic look and feel.

Nice
Good quality paint, easy to work with. Opacity was good for a light colour and left a nice finish.

Lovely colour and sheen
I am very pleased with the colour and sheen, along with the ease with which it can be applied to some surfaces (although it is not quite the same colour that I envisaged from the colour selector on the website). It does not apply well to all wood surfaces, and can too easily scratch in these cases, appearing like a thin film of acrylic paint that can peel away. It does seem to give off fumes which are not helpful to asthmatics, even though these are not very noticeable. Compared to some chalk paints, which can be very tough, opaque and used diversely and artistically, I find this to be much more of a regular painters and decorators paint but with the environmental and non-toxic benefits offered by an ethical company and at a competitive price.I am very pleased with my purchase, but it is a bit more limited than I had hoped.

Subtle sheen non yellowing & easy to apply - our favourite!
I am very fond of Earthborn eggshell. The coverage is fantastic, you often get away with a single coat. Please beware not to leave any sugar soap on surface to be painted, as strangely it seems to cause cracking and blistering. It's also not suited to being repeatedly cleaned with de-greasing household detergents, eventually it goes a bit sticky. But for areas that don't need constant cleaning it's a fantastic product, perfect for skirtings, dado rails and any other wood. I've used it on chest of drawers, doors, skirtings, dado rails, window sills, cornice - only place I would not put it again is on hand rails. Water soluble and pleasant low odour. Our favourite for interior wood!!

Excellent coverage, no smell, decent finish
I mainly bought this paint to avoid excessive exposure to odours (VOCs) as I'm painting all woodwork in a house while living in it. I am very happy with the finish - the paint is easy to apply over the primer, two coats providing a really decent finish.
