Overview

Back

Earthborn Eco Chic Claypaint is a clay-based paint range designed specifically for painting unfinished and previously painted furniture.

This product is mixed to order, with the exception of the colours Flower Pot, Freckle, Humpty Dumpty, Marbles and White Clay so unfortunately cannot be returned. This does not affect your statutory rights.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Surfaces to be painted must be clean, dry and free from all traces of dust, dirt and any other surface contaminants.

Unfinished or Bare Wood Furniture

  1. New, unfinished or bare wood furniture should need no preparation
  2. Old unfinished wood may require a light sanding to remove any build up of dirt, grease and other contaminates
  3. If required, wipe over with a lint-free cloth dampened with methylated spirit to clean and de-grease the wood
  4. Take care to remove all traces of sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner or damp cloth
  5. If painting directly onto untreated wood, use Eco Chic Claypaint as a primer, just thin with 20% of water
  6. Some wood surfaces may require priming with Earthborn Multi Purpose Primer

Previously Treated Furniture

  1. Previously painted wood should be given a light sanding to provide a key
  2. Surfaces previously painted with an oil-based paint will require a heavier sanding
  3. Take care to remove all traces of sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner or damp cloth
  4. Previously waxed wood will need to be stripped back to clean, bare wood with a suitable wax & polish remover
  5. Previously oiled wood will need to be sanded or scrubbed with white spirit to remove the oil from the wood
  6. Previously waxed and oiled wood should be tested once stripped by wiping over with water. If the water beads or is repelled in any areas, a further attempt to remove the oil or wax should be made
  7. Wood can then be primed with thinned Earthborn Eco Chic paint or Earthborn Multi Purpose Primer

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Because Earthborn Eco Chic is a natural product, there may be subtle variations in shade between batches. For this reason, avoid starting a new tin in the middle of a project. If a project is likely to require several tins, pour the required number of tins into a single container and mix thoroughly before beginning.

Colours within the Earthborn Claypaint range can be inter-mixed to create a variety of colour shades and tones.

  1. Apply the paint with a good quality synthetic brush in a thin, even coat
  2. Spread the paint evenly in all directions
  3. Apply 2-3 coats, allow 6-12 hours drying time between coats
  4. On light-coloured, smooth surfaces, 1 coat is normally sufficient

Get creative

Try applying a contrasting base coat followed by your chosen top coat colour, then gently sand back areas to reveal the colour beneath.

Finishing

Finishing

Back

Furniture painted with Earthborn Eco Chic Paint can be finished with a protective coat of Earthborn Furniture Wax if desired.

Regular Cleaning

Surfaces should be wipeable after about 10 days. If marked, gently wipe down with a slightly damp, lint-free cloth. It is also often possible to remove surface marks using a pencil eraser or very fine emery paper.

Maintenance

To maintain the finish, simply apply a fresh coat of Earthborn Eco Chic Paint as required, following the Application instructions above.

Excellent
Superb product, excellent coverage and exactly the colour that was advertised. I would highly recommend both the product and the company.

Very good coverage and it allows the walls to breathe
I needed a paint to cover a wall which is slightly prone to damp and this did the job really well. It smells pleasant, is easy to apply and can be thinned down with water to make it even easier to paint, without losing the good coverage. I tinted the Vanilla shade with a sample pot of Freckle to give a lovely pale apricot shade and it blended in very easily.

Characterful colour and finish
We originally chose Earthborn Clay Paint for its breath ability on lime plaster. However we liked it so much for its ease of application, lack of unpleasant smell and the depth of colour and finish, which seems to vary in different lights, that we have been choosing it even for walls where breath ability is not an issue, and also for painting some old kitchen chairs

Lovely colour and texture
I am very pleased with the very bright colour and matt texture (quite a startling grey), along with the ease with which it can be applied. It does seem to give off fumes which are not helpful to asthmatics, even though these are not very noticeable. Compared to some chalk paints, which can be very tough, opaque and used diversely and artistically, I find this to be much more of a regular painters and decorators paint but with the environmental and non-toxic benefits offered by an ethical company and at a competitive price. I am still looking for ways of modifying its very matt finish, which does not suit all circumstances. I am very pleased with my purchase, but it is a bit more limited than I had hoped.

Highly recommend earthborn, really nice to use and they have a big selection of vibrant colours compared to other brands.

Lovely paint to use!
Earthborn paint is all I use on furniture, it's got a nice silky texture and covers well. Highly recommended if you want to shabby chic some bits up.

Good thick matte paint
Very good, goes on well, took a couple of coats with a light sand between and gave a very good finish.
