Overview

Earthborn Claypaint covers fully and is virtually non-drip. It is excellent for painting dry, absorbent, grease-free surfaces such as wallpaper, wood, plaster including lime plaster, and most common mineral surfaces and can also be used on previously painted sound surfaces. Carries the Safety of Toys Standard (EN71-3:2019), making it ideal for use on children's furniture and toys. Also obtained a 'class 0' fire reaction rating, making it heat resistant up to 80° without impacting the finish.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Surfaces to be painted must be clean, dry and free from all traces of dirt and debris prior to applying Earthborn Clay Paint.

  1. All traces of loose or defective paint should be removed with a stiff brush or scraper
  2. Powdery surfaces should be stabilised with a suitable wall sealer
  3. Stains which bleed through paint (such as water, nicotine etc.) should be treated with Earthborn Isolating Primer
  4. For surface preparation where staining is not an issue, Earthborn Multi Purpose Primer can be used if required
  5. Very smooth, non-absorbent surfaces must be sanded back, removing any sanding dust before painting
  6. Clay / lime plaster must be moistened before applying Earthborn Clay Paint

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before staring any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Because Earthborn Claypaint is a natural product, there may be subtle variations in shade between batches. Avoid starting a new container in the middle of a wall. If a large area is to be painted that requires several tins, if possible, pour the required number of tins into a single container and mix thoroughly.

Colours within the Earthborn Claypaint range can be inter-mixed to create a variety of colour shades and tones.

Earthborn paints must be stirred thoroughly before and periodically during use.

  1. Apply the paint with a good quality synthetic brush, microfibre roller or spray applicator thinly and evenly
  2. Spread the paint evenly in all directions
  3. Allow each coat to dry for 6 to 12 hours before the next is applied
  4. On light-coloured, smooth surfaces 1 coat is normally sufficient
  5. For significant colour change, further coats may be required
  6. On very absorbent surfaces, such as fresh plaster, use a priming coat of clay paint diluted with up to 20% water and finish with an undiluted final coat

Regular Cleaning

Surfaces should be wipeable after about 10 days. If marked, simply wipe down with a slightly dampened, lint-free cloth. It is also often possible to remove surface marks using a pencil eraser or very fine emery paper.

Maintenance

If the finish begins to look worn over time, simply apply a fresh coat of Earthborn Claypaint, following the Application instructions above.

Q. Are clay paints similar to chalk paints?

A. In general, our customers say that Earthborn Clay Paint has a comparable finish to chalk paint. Customers that have used both products tend to agree that chalk paints almost always require a top coat of wax or other to seal the finish. Clay paints are considered to be more durable, therefore not requiring an additional protective top coat. We do however recommend sealing claypaint with Earthborn Furniture Wax when used on furniture as this provides a more durable finish.

Q. I'm looking for a non toxic nursery paint that is safe for both nursery walls and ceiling. Is Earthborn Clay paint suitable?

A. Earthborn clay paints are breathable, virtually odour free, contain next to no VOC's and meet strict eco standards making them ideal as a nursery paint. Earthborn Claypaint is also ideal for nursery furniture but should be over-coated with Earthborn Furniture Wax for added protection and durability.

Amazing Quality Paint for Old Houses
We have used Earth Born before, but walls needed a refresh after 5 years. Earth Born is lovely thick, good quality paint, that gives a slight texture to the walls. We have also now used it in different colours, which are richly pigmented. Earth Born paint doesn't smell and is environmentally friendly and us breathable for old houses.

Product great - not used paint before but matches up to the paint that was done six years ago - quality stuff
Just a great paint use - no problems and no come backs which means happy customers.

Lovely stuff
I struggled with Earthborn claypaint until I realised I had to add a bit of water to get the first coat on well. How much water depends on the wall, even when it’s primed. I’ve grown to love it.

I've only used the sample
Other projects in our money pit suddenly took priority. So not used the paint yet. However it was despatched quickly& arrived intact as properly packaged.

Best paint ever used
Bought Earthborn paint as needed breathable paint and excellent reviews. We have used F&B, Little Green and various for years but this paint is no comparison. It’s like v thick custard and needed only the one coat - including several newly plastered walls. Covers like a dream. Total convert.

Lovely to paint with - excellent coverage
I have hemp lime plastered walls so clay paint is a must. This is so nice to paint with - thick, creamy, no splash or spray and covers with one coat. The finished look is almost velvety.

Superb quality paint with no odour. The colour, Maybe Maggie is such a warm, light tone. We were so happy with the colour that we painted the spare bedroom too abd ordered another tin.

Lovely paint
I have not yet used this particular colour but, having used other Earthborn clay paints previously, I have found they give excellent coverage, a good finish and I am able to tolerate the smell
