Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure that surfaces to be painted are clean, dry and free from traces of dust, dirt or any other surface contaminants.

New or Bare Walls or Ceilings

  1. New or bare surfaces should be sanded to remove any surface imperfections
  2. Take care to remove all traces of sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner before painting
  3. Lightly coat or mist the surface using an appropriate primer

New or Bare Wood

  1. New or bare wood should be sanded to remove any surface imperfections
  2. Take care to remove all traces of sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner or damp, lint-free cloth
  3. On bare wood, where a strong colour change is required, or when over-coating a factory primed substrate, we recommend priming with Dulux Trade Quick Dry Undercoat

Previously Treated Wood

  1. All traces of grease, wax and polish must be completely removed prior to applying Diamond Eggshell
  2. Coated surfaces in good condition should be sanded back to provide a good surface key and final finish
  3. Do not use wood dyes or stains over previous coatings as the adhesion will be poor
  4. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1970s painted surfaces as they may contain harmful lead
  5. Where the existing coating is defective (cracking, peeling, flaking) it must be completely removed and the surface prepared as described for new or bare surfaces above

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

For best colour consistency, purchase sufficient paint for each project including enough for touch-in at a later time.

Do not use below 10°C or in areas of high humidity or condensation.

  1. Stir the paint thoroughly before and periodically during use
  2. Apply with a good quality synthetic paint brush, microfibre roller or spray applicator
  3. For best results if using a brush, lightly dampen both the brush and the surface prior to applying the first coat to increase flow
  4. Seal new or bare surfaces with a first coat of thinned eggshell, adding up to 1 part clean water to 10 parts paint
  5. Apply 2 full coats on previously coated or suitably primed surfaces
  6. Allow 4 - 6 hours drying time between coats
  7. For significant colour change, further coats may be required

Thinning Guidelines

  • Sealing new or bare surfaces: Add up to 1 part clean water to 10 parts paint
  • Normal use: Thinning is not usually needed
  • Conventional spray application: Add up to 1 part clean water to 5 parts paint
  • Airless spray application: Thinning is not usually needed
