Preparation

Preparation

Back

All surfaces must be clean, dry and free from dust, grease and previous finishes before application. For best results, wood should be properly prepared to ensure even absorption and optimal performance of the hardwax oil.

  • Ensure all existing finishes such as varnishes, paints, waxes or sealers are completely removed to expose clean, bare wood
  • Sand the surface using the correct method, starting with a coarse grit, such as P60 grit and finishing with P100-120 grit sandpaper, then remove all sanding dust
  • Can be applied to sanded, planed or brushed wood surfaces
  • Existing oiled surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned and degreased before reapplication with a suitable cleaner, such as Ciranova Intensive Cleaner

Application

Application

Back

Always test the product on a small, inconspicuous area before starting any project to assess suitability, colour and final finish. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container.

Ciranova Hardwax Oil is supplied ready to use and should be stirred and shaken thoroughly before and during application to ensure an even distribution of pigments and resins. Apply in well ventilated conditions.

  1. Apply the hardwax oil evenly using a buffing machine, brush or Lint-Free Cloths
  2. Allow the oil to settle briefly, then remove any excess within a few minutes using a pad or cloth
  3. Continue working the surface until it feels hand-dry and no residue remains

Please Note: Hardwoods such as oak typically require two coats. Softwoods may require additional coats depending on absorption. Exotic wood types should always be tested beforehand to assess compatibility and drying behaviour.

Dry Time

  1. Recoatable after approximately 12 hours
  2. Light foot traffic after approximately 24 hours
  3. Fully cured after approximately 10 days
  4. Highly pigmented colours may extend drying and curing times

Aftercare

Aftercare

Back

Proper aftercare will help maintain the appearance and performance of surfaces treated with Ciranova Hardwax Oil. Regular cleaning and periodic maintenance will extend the life of the finish and keep wood looking its best.

  • For routine cleaning, use a dedicated wood flooring soap designed for oiled surfaces, such as Ciranova Flooring Soap
  • For periodic maintenance, apply Ciranova Maintenance Oil oil to refresh and protect the finish
  • In cases of heavy soiling, clean thoroughly with an intensive wood cleaner before re-oiling
  • The hardwax oil reaches full hardness after approximately 7 days
  • During the curing period, avoid contact with water and do not use maintenance products

Exotic and unusual wood species should always be tested before full application, as absorption and drying behaviour can vary depending on the natural oils and density of the wood.
