Bona R848 Adhesive. Perfect for installing parquet flooring or narrow solid boards (less than 190mm width). Suitable substrates include concrete, plywood, cork, particle or chip board, stone, ceramic, terrazzo, radiant heat flooring (refer to manufacturer's recommended installation instructions) and dry, above-grade gypsum underlayments. This product may be used for glue assisted installations. Excellent initial "green grab" means the flooring stays in place, causing practically no swelling of the wood. With it's GreenGuard indoor air quality certification, it's water and solvent-free, meaning no strong odours.

Please be advised that this product is NOT for use in the following situations:

  • On wet, contaminated or friable surfaces
  • Over concrete curing compounds, sealers or other surface treatments that could affect adhesion
  • On areas subject to hydrostatic head
  • On cutback residue, or over vinyl / VCT
  • On chemically treated woods (stain, preservatives, etc.)
  • As a levelling compound

Looking for a stronger adhesive for wider engineered flooring? Try Bona Quantum, or for ultimate strength, see Bona Titan.

Looking for an adhesive for use on wooden stairs, skirting and door threshholds? Try Bona Vertical

Preparation

Preparation

Back

The substrate must be structurally sound, clean, dry and free from surface dust, dirt and debris. Surfaces should be slightly textured for best adhesion. Substrates may need to meet the requirements of local standards and codes of practice before floors are laid. It may be necessary for substrates to be professionally prepared for laying.

  • Remove all existing traces of adhesive residue, paint, concrete curing compounds or other contaminants that may affect the adhesive bond
  • Sandblasting, shot blasting or scarifying may be necessary to completely remove some of these residues
  • Surface cracks, grooves, depressions, control joints or other non-moving joints, and other irregularities must be filled or smoothed with a Portland Cement-based patching and levelling compound
  • Substrate must be level to 3/16°C in a 10 foot span.
  • Slab temperatures must be between 55°F and 95°F.
  • For substrates that require a damp proof membrane (DPM), see Bona R540

Please Note: Wood flooring must not be installed before the compound has fully cured. Do not install over expansion joints or other moving joints in a concrete slab.

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to check suitability and compatibility, following the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times.

Before use, ensure the air temperature is above 18°C, the floor temperature is above 15°C (with under floor heating max 20°C) and the relative humidity is less than 70%. If necessary, bring the adhesive to the right temperature.

  1. Once opened, remove the protective foil and any hardened adhesive from around the edges
  2. Spread adhesive on the substrate while holding the Bona trowel at a 90° angle, using a smooth semi-circular motion
  3. Once applied, if the adhesive has formed a skin, remove the adhesive and re-apply
  4. Do not allow more than 30 minutes of open time before firmly setting flooring into the adhesive. Higher humidity can decrease open time
  5. If some adhesive is pressed up in joints (so that it might come into direct contact with a finish or oil), remove it carefully or make sure that the adhesive is sufficiently cured before you apply the surface treatment
  6. Do not leave any puddles of adhesive

Coverage Guide

Use a fine trowel for small pieces of wood and/or smooth substrates, and a coarse trowel for large pieces of wood and/or less smooth and rough surfaces (F = fine, G = coarse) Bona Adhesive Trowel

  • Mosaic parquet or any other similar solid parquet: approximately 900 g/m², Bona Trowel 850 G or 850 F
  • 2 layered pre-finished parquet and 22 mm block parquet: approximately 1100 g/m², Bona Trowel 1000 F or Bona 1000 G
  • 3-layered pre-finished parquet, boards and solid wood planks (max. 22 x 120 mm): approximately 1350 g/m², Bona Trowel 1250 F or 1250 G

The adhesive consumption during the application with the Bona OptiSpread system depends mainly on the walking speed as well as the adjusted air pressure (OptiSpread 100, OptiSpread 2.0). Please refer to respective machine manual.

For full application and coverage details, please refer to the 'Technical Information' Datasheet link above.

It is possible to apply load and stress to the floor after approximately 24 to 48 hours. Any sanding and surface coating to be applied, may be carried out after 1 to 4 days depending on the type of parquet, absorbency of the substrate and room climate.

Great product
Does a great job, although the square meter estimate you get from a tub is way off. I imagine the figure they estimate is on a perfectly flat chipboard floor. When working on self levelled or flat concrete expect to use a lot more. It took 5 tubs for a 5x7 room

Great Product, Great Service
Product is excellent but what I really wanted to say was that the courier used to deliver 6 tubs to us managed to break 3 of them. When informed Wood Finishes Direct sent 3 replacements without any quibbling - very impressed with that and would recommend them.

Excellent
This is an excellent product. I sed it to fix solid oak boards to a a concrete floor which I had stabilised with Bona polyurethane sealer. I am very pleased with the finished job and any extraneous drips etc were easy to remove when dry.
