Preparation

Preparation

Back

Preparing the surface properly will help the filler adhere well and produce a smooth, long lasting repair. Ensure the area is clean, dry and free from any loose or flaking material before application.

  • Remove loose masonry, dust, dirt and any peeling paint from the repair area.
  • Take extra care when removing old paint, as coatings applied before the 1960s may contain lead. Avoid creating dust and follow appropriate safety guidance when preparing these surfaces.
  • Use Sandpaper Sheets or scrape back rough edges with a Filler Knife to create a sound surface for the filler to bond to.
  • Allow surfaces to dry thoroughly before filling, particularly if they have been cleaned beforehand.
  • Treat any mould or algae with Sandtex Fungicidal Wash before carrying out repairs.

Application

Application

Back

Sandtex Ready Mixed Masonry Filler is easy to apply and creates a smooth, paint ready repair. For the best results, apply in dry conditions and allow sufficient drying time before decorating.

  • Always test on a small inconspicuous area before starting your project to check suitability and compatibility.
  • Apply the filler directly from the tub using a filling knife or spreader, pressing it firmly into the repair.
  • For deeper repairs, build up the filler in layers of no more than 9mm, allowing each layer to dry before applying the next.
  • Smooth the surface as you work to minimise sanding once the filler has dried.
  • Allow at least 16 hours for the filler to dry thoroughly before sanding if required and applying masonry paint.
  • Clean tools immediately after use with warm soapy water and reseal the tub to help prevent the filler from drying out.
