Preparation

Preparation

Back

Before applying Sandtex Brickwork Waterproofer and Protector, ensure the surface is clean, dry and in good condition. Proper preparation will help the treatment penetrate the substrate effectively and provide the best level of water repellency.

  • Remove dirt, dust, moss, algae and any loose or flaking material from the surface.
  • Ensure the substrate is completely dry before application and do not apply to damp masonry.
  • Remove any oil, grease or other contaminants with a Universal Degreaser and Cleaner that could prevent the treatment from soaking into the surface.
  • Treat mould, algae or fungal growth with Sandtex Fungicidal Wash and allow the surface to dry thoroughly before application.
  • Repair any cracks, holes or damaged mortar with Sandtex Ready Mixed Masonry Filler before treating the surface to achieve the best results.
  • Protect adjacent windows, painted surfaces and plants from splashes, and ensure the weather is dry before starting the project.

Application

Application

Back

Always test Sandtex Brickwork Waterproofer and Protector on a small inconspicuous area before starting your project to check suitability, compatibility and the final appearance.

  • Shake the container thoroughly before use to ensure the formula is evenly mixed.
  • Apply a generous, even coat using a Brush or Roller and Tray, working methodically across the surface.
  • Allow the treatment to soak into the substrate and avoid leaving puddles or excess product on the surface.
  • Apply a second coat within one hour of the first while the initial coat is still curing.
  • Do not apply in wet weather or if rain, frost or very low temperatures are expected before the treatment has dried.
  • Allow the treated surface to dry for at least 24 hours before exposing it to heavy rain or other moisture.

Aftercare

Aftercare

Back

Once Sandtex Brickwork Waterproofer and Protector has been applied, allow the surface to dry for at least 24 hours before exposing it to heavy rain or excessive moisture. Regular inspection and simple maintenance will help keep exterior masonry protected for longer.

  • Allow the treatment to cure fully before exposing the surface to prolonged wet weather.
  • Clean treated surfaces with water and a soft brush if dirt or algae begin to build up.
  • Inspect exterior masonry periodically for signs that water is no longer beading on the surface, as this may indicate that another application is required.
  • Repair any cracks or damaged mortar promptly to prevent water from penetrating the substrate.
  • If you intend to paint the surface in the future, the water repellent treatment may need to weather or be removed to allow good adhesion.
  • Store any unused product in a tightly sealed container, protected from frost and direct sunlight.

Good product
Product goes a long water, the consistency is quite watery so decided to roller it on rather than brush. The 5l tin did two patios, a path and the coping stones on a wall. Time will tell to see how effective it is.
