Back

Ronseal Teak Oil is a highly versatile wood oil that is formulated to protect, restore and waterproof all exterior and interior hardwood surfaces.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure that wooden surfaces to be coated with Ronseal Teak Oil are clean, dry and free from surface dirt and debris by brushing with a stiff brush or by lightly sanding.

Bare or New Timber

  1. Thoroughly remove traces of sanding dust, dirt and grease by wiping over with white spirit before using teak oil
  2. Remove any mould or algae growth from the wood with a suitable cleaner
  3. Wood that has turned grey or silver over time can be treated with Ronseal Hardwood Garden Furniture Restorer
  4. Any instances of wet rot can be treated with Ronseal Wet Rot Wood Hardener, and any existing woodworm can be eradicated with Ronseal Woodworm Killer
  5. Fill any holes or imperfections in the wood with Ronseal High Performance Wood Filler or Ronseal Multi Purpose Wood Filler
  6. For best results, pre-treat the wood with Ronseal Total Wood Preservative

Previously Coated Timber

  1. Remove all surface coatings such as paint, varnish wood sealers and stains by sanding back to bare wood or using a suitable paint and varnish remover
  2. Then treat as 'New Timber'

How To Apply Teak Oil

Always do a test area before beginning any project to assess performance and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Shake the tin well before use.

  1. Apply the Teak Oil liberally using a paint brush or soft, dry, lint-free cloth
  2. Work the oil into the wood grain and wipe off any excess from the surface
  3. Allow 24 hours drying time before applying a second coat
  4. 3 coats in total are recommended, leaving 24 hours between coats

Regular Cleaning

Garden furniture and other wood treated with Ronseal Teak Oil can be easily wiped down with a dry or damp lint-free cloth to remove food and liquid spillages.

Deep Cleaning

More stubborn marks and stains can usually be cleaned with a suitable wood cleaner, such as Ronseal Garden Furniture Cleaner.

Please Note: Avoid using household cleaners on oiled wood as they can potentially degrade or strip the oil from the wood over time. Always use a dedicated wood cleaner.

Repair

Deep stains, scuffs, marks and minor scratches may require a light sanding, to remove the damage, before applying a thin coat of Teak Oil to the affected area for an invisible repair.

Maintenance

To keep garden furniture and other garden wood protected and looking its best, apply a fresh coat of Teak Oil as required, following the Preparation and Application instructions above.

Very happy with the result
My garden table and chairs hadn’t had a lot of attention for a couple of years but after following the instructions it didn’t look like new but an awful lot better and the rain just sat on top, no sinking in as before. Very happy.

Quality!
Instant improvement when applied and great colour to the furniture. Only downside is a recent rub with a baby wipe lifted the colour- a sealant might help finish the job off.

Perfect
Exactly what I was after. Perfect finish. Garden chairs look new. Note that some of the so called. teak oils' on the market are water based. This one is not which I think is better.
