Ronseal Multi Purpose Wood Treatment

Ronseal Multi Purpose Wood Treatment is a water-based wood treatment for interior and exterior timbers that protects against wet and dry rot, fungi, woodworm and their larvae, and other wood boring insects.

• To protect exterior wood against wet rot and woodworm infestation, try Ronseal Total Wood Preservative
• To treat existing instances of wet rot prior to filling, use Ronseal Wet Rot Wood Hardener
• To eradicate existing woodworm and prevent re-infestation, use Ronseal Woodworm Killer

Surfaces to be treated should be clean, dry and free from all previous surface coatings such as paint, varnish and wood stains. This product is only suitable for bare wood surfaces.

• Any film forming coatings such as paint should be totally removed except when treating furniture for insect attack
• Where timbers have been attacked by fungal growth, remove all decayed wood and replace with sound preservative treated timber, prior to general application of Multi Purpose Wood Treatment
• Cut out and burn all decayed wood at least 45 cm beyond the area of damage
• Fill any gaps or minor imperfections in the wood with Ronseal High Performance Wood Filler or Ronseal Multi Purpose Wood Filler

Always do a test area before starting any project to check suitability and compatibility. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Do not apply Ronseal Multi Purpose Wood Treatment in wet conditions or if rain, frost or snow is likely before the product is dry. Stir thoroughly before and periodically during application. To spray apply wood treatment, we recommend the Ronseal Pump Sprayer.

Wet / Dry Rot

1. Apply thinly, with appropriate brush or spray applicator, paying particular attention to ends and joints
2. Where possible, end grains should be treated by dipping to ensure complete penetration
3. Do not let the coats of preservative fully dry before adding another coat
4. Apply second and third coat as above
5. Ventilate treated areas thoroughly after application
6. Once dry, a suitable top coat can be applied

Insect Attack

1. Apply by brush, spray or dipping paying particular attention to ends and joints
2. Make sure the treatment is injected into all holes 10cm apart
3. Ventilate treated areas thoroughly after application
4. For bare wood, two coats is recommended, covering all faces, sides and joints, and paying particular attention to the end grain; for large timbers, 3 coats is required
5. Any replacement timber should also be treated, all joints should be flooded and any dry, dusty cracks should be treated
6. Wipe off any surface liquid with a dry, lint-free cloth
7. Repeat the treatment in severe cases of infestation

Once dry, Ronseal Multi Purpose Wood Treatment can be over-coated with a suitable wood oil, paint, stain or varnish.
