Preparation

Preparation

Back

Make sure that wood to be painted is clean, dry and free from dirt, dust and other surface contaminants.

Bare or New Wood

  • Fill any holes or cracks with Ronseal High Performance Wood Filler
  • Treat any resinous knots with a suitable knotting solution if required
  • Lightly sand the wood with P120 sandpaper to ensure a smooth consistent finish
  • Sand in the direction of the wood grain
  • Remove all traces of sanding dust before painting

Previously Painted Wood

  • Old paint that is sound and intact should be lightly sanded with P240 sandpaper to provide a key
  • Remove all traces of sanding dust
  • Wipe down surface with white spirit to clean and degrease surface and allow to dry
  • Paint that has started to crack or peel must be sanded back to bare wood, using P120 sandpaper
  • Fill any gaps with Ronseal High Performance Wood Filler
  • Then treat as 'Bare or New Wood' above

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturers instructions on the tin at all times.

  1. Stir thoroughly before and periodically during use
  2. Apply with a synthetic bristle brush, going with the direction of the wood grain
  3. Allow 4 hours to dry between coats
  4. Apply 2 coats if painting previously coated wood, 3 coats if applying to bare wood

For best results, use lighter colours in areas exposed to high levels of sunlight. The longevity of the finish will vary depending on the paint colour and the type and condition of the timber or existing paintwork. A South-facing position and the level of shade will also affect durability.

Brilliant paint
Having removed wet rot wood I applied Ronseal Hardener and associated wood filler followed by three coats of Ronseal Weather Proof white paint. The paint was a joy to apply, no runs and rapid drying. Totally restored an external wooden door to new condition. Have no doubt I will not be needing to claim under the ten year guarantee !!

Brilliant product
Having used this on our house my two neighbours have now used same paint for their houses. Everyone loves it. Brilliant colour. Goes on slightly pink shade but dries to a beautiful warm chestnut. Would recommend.

Very good
Great coverage and opacity after 2 coats, fast drying times, water solubility is a massive positive so no need to clean brushes with toxic solvents. Just wish Ronseal had a broader colour palate for this gloss paint
