Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure that wood to be painted is clean, dry and free from traces of dust, dirt or any other surface contaminants.

  • Exterior wood should be thoroughly cleaned with warm water, detergent and a stiff brush
  • Previous treatments including paints and varnishes should be fully removed
  • Treat areas affected by mould, mildew or algae with a suitable mould and mildew cleaner
  • Allow the timber to dry fully
  • If applying to bare timber, a knotting agent or stain blocking primer should be applied prior to application to prevent any possible resin bleed staining the coating
  • If the timber hasn't been treated with a wood preservative, Protek Wood Preserver Plus can be used on suitable timbers

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

  1. Mix thoroughly before and periodically during use
  2. Apply with a good quality synthetic bristle brush, microfibre roller or low pressure spray gun
  3. It is recommended that 2 coats be applied, with a 3rd coat if a deeper colour is required
  4. Allow 2-4 hours drying time between coats
  5. Do not apply in temperatures below 5°C or if wet weather is expected within 48 hours
  6. Do not apply to wet, damp or frozen timber

Please Note: Protek Royal Metallics are of a high build formulation so each extra coat increases the colour and sheen.

Brilliant product
I have painted all my old garden pots with this paint and they look brilliant. I would say that although this should be bronze, it looks more like copper. If you buy the copper I think it may be very orange looking. It has cost me far less to paint all my pots than it would to replace them. Brilliant product.
