Overview

Overview

Back

Protek Royal Exterior Paint is a high quality, decorative wood paint. The colours in the extensive Royal range are classic, contemporary and fit perfectly with modern design.

Its unique formulation is a water-based acrylic and alkyd hybrid that incorporates a polyurethane dispersion based on linseed oil. It is ideal for use on exterior wooden windows, doors, conservatories, summerhouses, gates, cladding and garden furniture.

Please Note: Protek have recently made the decision to change the pigments used in the manufacture of the Royal range. Every tin with the new pigment will have the prefix NEW on the label. The wet state colour does look a little different in some colours, but have matched to the dried finish product and there is little or no change in its appearance.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure that wood to be painted is clean, dry and free from traces of dust, dirt or any other surface contaminants.

  • Exterior wood should be thoroughly cleaned with warm water, detergent and a stiff brush
  • Previous treatments including paints and varnishes should be fully removed
  • Treat areas affected by mould, mildew or algae with a suitable mould and mildew cleaner
  • Allow the timber to dry fully
  • If applying to bare timber, a knotting agent or stain blocking primer should be applied prior to application to prevent any possible resin bleed staining the coating
  • If the timber hasn't already been preserved, a suitable, wax-free wood preservative is recommended

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

  1. Mix thoroughly before and periodically during use
  2. Apply with a good quality synthetic bristle brush, microfibre roller or low pressure spray gun
  3. It is recommended that 2 coats be applied, with a 3rd coat if a deeper colour is required
  4. Allow 2-4 hours drying time between coats
  5. Do not apply in temperatures below 5°C or if wet weather is expected within 48 hours
  6. Do not apply to wet, damp or frozen timber

Please Note: Protek Royal Exterior Paint is a high build formulation so each extra coat increases the colour and sheen.

Aftercare

Aftercare

Back

Maintain every 2 - 5 years or as required by cleaning the surface of the wood and following the preparation and application instructions above.

Like how it's easy clean brushes and and no messing with a cleaning agent. Consistently in coverage and a smooth application makes life easy didt need a second coat as I used protek wood preserver as a, sealant and painted on top when it had dried.
