Morrells 440 Acid-Catalyst Lacquer

Ensure that all wooden surfaces are clean, dry and free from surface dirt, debris, waxes and oils.

• Surfaces can be degreased with White Spirit before coating with Morrells 440 Acid-cat Lacquer
• Fill any gaps or splits with Morrells Wax Filler Sticks or Morrells Two-Part Coloured Wood Fillers

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess performance and end result. Follow the manufacturers instructions on the tin at all times.

Optimum application is achieved between 18°C and 22°C with good air movement and ventilation.

Mixing Supplied Catalyst with 440 Lacquer

Catalyse 9 parts Morrells 440 Acid-cat Lacquer to 1 part catalyst by volume and mix well prior to use. The catalysed lacquer is then ready for use but can be thinned up to 5% by volume with the recommended thinner, Morrells Hydrocarbon Free Thinners, if required. Under normal conditions these products will have a workable pot-life of 36 hours after catalysis.

Application

1. Apply lacquer with a spray applicator
2. Leave adequate time between coats
3. Denib between coats to aid adhesion
4. Do not apply more than 3 coats in one day, as excessive coating weights can lead to cracking or lifting

Lacquers of this type achieve their full resistance properties after 21 - 28 days drying, although careful use is possible before this period.

Some Points of Note

• Do not overcoat with 1K or 2K Polyurethane (PU) products
• Product should be stored above 5°C and protected from frost
• Finished products should not be subjected to environments with temperatures of < 2°C
• Do not use over pigmented bases or with NC, Shellac or Precatalysed Sealers
• Some timbers (e.g. cherry, maple etc) are prone to discoloration or reddening when using acid catalyst lacquers

Catalysing

• Under catalysing or over catalysing can cause impairment of cure and cracking
• The mixing of catalysed material with fresh material is not recommended
• Always catalyse the right amount for the job
