Morrells Light Fast Wood Stain

Morrells Light Fast Wood Stain is a solvent-based, non-grain raising, professional grade wood stain for all types of interior wood, including floors, doors, furniture and more. Suitable for hand, spray or dip application and even tinting the Morrells range of wood lacquers. Contains light fast colour pigments which resist fading.

Ensure that surfaces to be stained are clean, dry and free from dust, loose dirt and debris, and any other surface contaminants.

1. Wood should be sanded with 180 grit abrasive paper
2. Ensure that all traces of sanding dust are removed
3. Degrease the wood with Methylated Spirit if necessary
4. Fill any gaps or splits with Morrells Wax Filler Sticks or Morrells Two-Part Coloured Wood Fillers

Please Note: Special care should be taken when sanding as a poor sanding technique can result in a patchy, uneven stain. Another characteristic of poor sanding are swirls and lines of deeper colour.

Always do a small test area before starting any project to assess compatibility and end result. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Optimum application is achieved between 18°C and 22°C with good air movement and ventilation.

1 or 2 coats of light fast stain can be applied depending on the desired coverage and colour depth. For larger surfaces, such as floors, it may be appropriate to apply the wood stain in sections. Always complete the full length of a board. Never stop and start mid board as this may produce an overlap or tide mark in the stain.

Hand Application

1. Apply with a soft, white, lint-free cloth
2. Apply the wood stain wet to the whole surface
3. Remove excess with a clean, white, lint-free cloth
4. Always work along the grain when cleaning off
5. Apply a second coat as above for a deeper, stronger colour

Spray Application

1. Spray apply an even wet coat
2. Remove excess with a soft, white, lint-free cloth
3. When dry spraying, ensure an even coat is applied and that the gun strokes follow the grain
4. Dry spraying needs a certain skill level, and if undertaken incorrectly can lead to patchiness and 'striping'
5. Allow to dry fully
6. Repeat process if a stronger depth of colour is required

Wiping-off can enhance the evenness of the colour and highlight the grain definition. Thinning with 50% Morrells Light Fast Thinners can assist in controlling the spray staining operation, but may change the tone or strength of colour.

Spray equipment can be cleaned after use with Morrells Equipment Cleaner.

Dip Application

1. Plunge or control dip the wood in to the stain
2. wipe excess woodstain off with a clean, white, lint-free cloth
3. Allow to dry fully
4. Repeat process for a stronger depth of colour

Please note: Although this product dries in 15 to 30 minutes and for most projects can be over-coated after this time, Morrells recommend that when used to stain floors, 2 hours drying time should be allowed prior to over-coating.

This product can also be used to tint Morrells 250 Pre-cat Lacquer, Morrells 280 Pre-cat Lacquer and Morrells 440 Acid-cat Lacquer, up to a maximum of 5% by volume (Acid-cat lacquers should be catalysed prior to tinting).

Morrells Light Fast Wood Stains must be over-coated with a clear top coat to seal in and protect the colour. This product can be over-coated with any of the Morrells wood lacquers, or any suitable varnish, lacquer, oil or wax after a test area is carried out.

Care should be taken if brush, roller, sponge or pad applying a solvent based top coat over this product as lifting or dragging of the solvent stain can occur. This is not an issue if over-coating with a water based varnish / lacquer or wax.

Although Morrells Light Fast Wood Stain dries in 30 minutes and for most projects can be over-coated after this time, Morrells recommend that when used to stain floors, 2 hours drying time should be allowed prior to over-coating.
