Overview

Overview

Back

Manns Classic Oak Stain is manufactured from the finest ingredients and quality pigments, which in turn enhances the overall grain structure of hardwoods. Lesser quality stains can produce a 'washed out' effect or cover the wood grain.

This stain can be mixed with other colours in the range to achieve 1,000's of new shades. The stain can also be diluted with water to produce lighter, less concentrated shades and colours.

Please Note: This product is only suitable for interior wooden surfaces, and is not suitable for high moisture environments such as bathrooms and shower rooms.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Wooden surfaces to be stained must be clean, dry and free from dirt, dust and any other surface contaminants, including traces of oil, wax, polish, paint and varnish.

  1. Fill any gaps or splits in the wood surface with a suitable wood filler
  2. New or freshly sanded wood can be cleaned and degreased by wiping down with methylated spirit
  3. Sand wood carefully to 120 - 150 grit taking care to ensure a consistently smooth surface
  4. Lightly wet the wood with water and gently sand the surface to reduce grain raising. This helps to achieve a smooth finish. (Avoid this step if a raised grain effect is preferred)

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area, including the final top coat finish (varnish, wax or oil), before starting any project to assess product suitability, colour and final finish.

Manns Oak Wood Stains are very easy to apply and have a good open time which helps to keep a wet edge, allowing time for tidying up runs and puddles. Minor runs will normally dry out evenly and should not be noticeable when the wood stain has fully dried.

  1. Mix the wood stain thoroughly before and periodically during use
  2. This product can be applied using a synthetic bristle brush, sponge, foam applicator or spray gun
  3. A foam sponge is highly recommended when working on large flat pieces, as any heavily stained areas can be soaked up by the sponge as you work. Similarly by applying a little more pressure, more of the wood stain can be released to save time returning to the container for more
  4. Apply a generous coat in the direction of the wood grain leaving a little on the surface and wipe off any excess stain as you go with a clean, lint-free cloth
  5. Denib (lightly sand) using a fine finishing pad or steel wool
  6. Take care to remove all traces of sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner before sealing the stain with a suitable top coat
  7. Allow the stain to fully dry before applying the top coat

Finishing

Finishing

Back

Manns Classic Oak Stain must be sealed with a top coat system such as a wood varnish, wood oil or wood wax.

Please note: After applying Manns Wood Stain and before applying a varnish, oil or wax top-coat, it is essential that the surface of the wood is denibbed or lightly sanded. All traces of sanding dust must then be thoroughly removed with a vacuum cleaner. Failure to do this may result in adhesion issues with varnish or lacquer top-coats. This is especially so with the 'white' wood stain. Special care should also be taken when applying the top coat over the water-based stain as excessive brush or roller strokes over the same area may potentially dislodge or drag the stain from the timber.

White wood stains need special care when finishing. Clear top-coats such as varnishes and oils often make white wood stains appear 'creamy' or 'off-white'. It is recommended that you contact us when considering a top-coat for a white wood stain.

Easy to apply, exactly the colour I was hoping for. Floor looks great. Need much less than coverage stated. Floor was 12m sq. I did 2 coats and used less than 1/2 litre. I ordered 2 litres but sent one back and got refunded no problem.
