Manns Extra Tough Interior Varnish

Manns Extra Tough Varnish is a polyurethane varnish that is ideal for most interior softwood and hardwood surfaces. The water-based formula is low odour, quick and easy to use and dries to a durable, long lasting finish.

• Need a single-part varnish for hardwood and softwood flooring, we recommend Manns Extra Tough Floor Varnish
• For a two-part, professional grade interior lacquer, consider Manns Trade Extra Tough Pro Lacquer
• For 2-pack, commercial grade protection on flooring, use Manns Trade Extra Tough Pro Floor Varnish
• This varnish can be tinted using our compatible, water-based Manns Classic Wood Dyes

Ensure that wood to be varnished is clean, dry and free from dust, dirt or any other surface contaminants.

1. All previous finishes must be completely removed back to bare wood by stripping or sanding the wood
2. Fill any gaps or splits in the wood using a suitable interior wood filler
3. New wood can be cleaned and degreased with methylated spirit if required
4. Freshly sanded wood should be wiped down with methylated spirit or vacuumed to remove all traces of sanding dust, dirt and debris
5. Prior to varnishing, softwood surfaces can be stained with Manns Classic Pine Stain whilst hardwood surfaces can be stained with Manns Classic Oak Stain. For a solvent based wood stain, use Manns Trade Light Fast Wood Stain

Manns Wood Primers

Prepared surfaces can be primed to improve coverage and adhesion if required.

Always do a test before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times.

Manns Extra Tough Interior Varnish can be applied with a synthetic bristle brush, microfibre roller or with an electric or compressor-based spray system. It has a slight peach colour in the container but will dry completely clear, enhancing the wood grain and colour.

1. For the best protection, we recommend applying 1 coat of Manns Extra Tough Primer followed by 2 coats of Manns Extra Tough Interior Varnish, using your chosen application method
2. When applying Manns Interior Varnish over water-based wood stains, apply the first coat of varnish or primer lightly with just one or two light brush strokes in the direction of the grain, then allow to dry. This will seal in the wood stain allowing additional coats of varnish to be applied with ease
3. Apply 2-3 coats of varnish leaving 2 hours drying time between coats

Please Note: Special care should be taken when applying the first coat of this product over a water-based stain as excessive brush or roller strokes over the same area may potentially dislodge or drag the stain from the timber.

Cleaning Equipment

Application brushes and equipment should be cleaned immediately after use with warm, soapy water and wiped dry.

Regular Cleaning

Wooden surfaces coated with Manns Extra Tough Interior Varnish can be cleaned on a day to day basis with a damp, lint-free cloth.

Deep Cleaning

For marks and scuffs, and for periodic cleaning, use a dedicated, pH balanced wood cleaner, such as Woodleys Wood Surface Cleaner.

Please Note: Varnished surfaces should never be saturated with large amounts of water or cleaned with household detergents or cleaners as these can be damaging to the finish.

By doing this you will loose the chalky finish of the paint. You may wish to consider Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax (Clear) instead which is designed for sealing and enhancing chalk finishes.
