Ensure that surfaces to be treated are clean, dry and free from any previous finishes before applying Hard Wax Oil.
Always do a small test area before beginning any project to assess compatibility and suitability. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. No thinner or primer is required. Stir thoroughly before and during application.
Fiddes Hard Wax Oil can be applied directly from the tin onto a prepared surface with a good quality natural bristle paint brush, cloth, microfibre roller or other floor finish applicator. It is ideally applied in a well ventilated area at room temperature. For best results and maximum protection, we recommend 2 coats on hardwoods such as oak, and 3 coats on softwoods such as pine, but a test area needs to be done to ensure the wood can accept the 3rd coat.
For day to day cleaning, surfaces treated with Fiddes Hard Wax Oil can be dry wiped, swept or vacuumed.
To clean surface scuffs, marks and stains, use Fiddes Floor Surface Cleaner and a damp (not wet) microfibre cloth or mop.
Please Note: Although Fiddes Cleaner is named 'Floor Surface Cleaner' it can be used on any surface treated with Fiddes Hard Wax Oil including floors, furniture, table tops and kitchen worktops.
Alternatively, Fiddes Wood Surface Cleaner Spray can be used on these other surfaces.
Oiled or waxed floors and surfaces should not be cleaned with a steam cleaner or steam mop as this can damage the finish.
Scuffs, stains, marks and minor scratches can be quickly and easily repaired.

Q. Is the hard wax oil durable enough for a table top?
A. Absolutely, this product is perfect for any wooden items requiring good protection. Another big advantage of this product is that repairs are very easy to do, should the need arise.
Q. Is hard wax oil any different to linseed oil or Danish oil?
A. It's better because the wax content keeps the oil suspended in the surface of the wood for longer. This means that it's a more durable oil and that maintenance is required less frequently. Also 2-3 coats are recommended (2 for everywhere except table tops and high traffic areas) where as 3-5 coats are recommended for Linseed oil, Danish oil and Tung oil.
Q. I have an old oak floor that has been finely sanded. Is hard wax oil a good choice for it?
A. It is beneficial if the wood grain is open when applying this product because hard wax oil mainly sinks into the wood and becomes a part of the wood. For that reason it requires a fairly open grain to accept the oil and whilst being applied, it is necessary to work the product into the wood. If you want to use any oil on your floor, but especially a wax oil, it is recommended to sand the floor with a 150 grit sandpaper or coarser. Then this product will be ideal for you.
Q. Can i use a steam cleaner or steam mop to clean my oiled floor?
A. In short, "No". Oiled and waxed finishes on floors are 'Micro-porous' which means that although the wood is protected, it can still breathe as it is not completely sealed as it would be with a varnish.
Cleaning oiled or waxed floors with a steam cleaner or steam mop introduces high temperature and pressure water which can strip and penetrate the oiled or waxed finish and potentially damage the wooden floor.
I used this to restore our oak dining room table, after 15 years of daily use and the ware and tear of a family growing up it was looking pretty tired and patchy. Some serious sanding and a couple of coats of this it looks like new, and ready to do another 15 years :-)
2.5 ltr was exactly enough to do 2 coats on a 24m2 floor.
Bought this to refresh a table, gives a good durable finish
Thought the product changed the colour of the wood far more than expected.
Thank you for the feedback on this product, its fair to say that the wood that you are applying to will impact on the finish. Some wood types will darken more than others and some will impact on the grain more than others. This is why we always recommend a test areas first, this helps to ensure not only that you have the right product but also that you will like the finish that will be achieved.

fiddes hard wax oil i am very impressed with this product, for its durability and smooth finish would definitly buy this product in the future.
I love using Fidds Hard wax oil, and the finish you get is unbelievable, with a good hard finish.
I used this product on top of Tung oil which I had applied a few days before. Although I had only ever used the Tung oil on my kitchen worktop, I wasn't really happy with it as it wasn't water-resistant enough in the areas around the sink and the the finish was rather dull. The Fiddes Hard Wax oil went on over it and dried easily. The finish is fairly glossy. The worktop looks like new and so far is much more water-resistant and is easier to keep clean.
Always use this product for any internal wood projects
Can't fault, easy to use ,and a more traditional finish, which was just what I was looking for to finish the staircase.
My 40 year old pine worktops look like new, american tint just right then a coat of cleat. Can wipe down with damp cloth then a quick dry with microfibre cloth as good as the old polyurethane.
We used this to oil a second hand solid oak table that was looking a little worn. It was easy to use, has a lovely natural matt finish, and seems hard-wearing so far. It even smelled nice!
I was really pleased that I found this product so easy to use with an astonishingly good finish. My only comment is that the fumes given off were considerable.
Does what it say on the tin. Really easy to apply and the final result s are excellent
Needed a product to revive an old parquet floor. The hard wax oil did everything I wanted.
Having had a new window finished with Hard Wax Oil I was so impressed that I bought a tin to finish 12 doors. Application is easy, finish is excellent. Everyone has commented upon the beautiful wood work in the house. I will buy another tin but this one has gone such a long way even after applying several coats to each door.
It was easy to apply and gives a great finish
I found this wax oil easy to apply with a brush, and once dry it has a very attractive, and apparently hard-wearing appearance. Coverage was a bit better than I expected from the documentation, which is an added bonus.
Great product used on new pine floorboards. Lovely subtle sheen. Easy to use. Easy to touch up or repair. Website, blogs & video guides very helpful- thank you.
Put this on new pine floorboards. Lovely subtle sheen brings out colour & grain. Easy to clean. Will be easy to repair if an area needs renovating in the future. Product delivered quickly & well packed. Found website, blog & video guides very helpful. Thank you.
This is the best of the hard wax oils currently available in the UK. Certainly the absolute best finish you can achieve on a floor without mechanical help. I mainly use it for cabinet linings and small projects because of the finish so it’s very versatile.
