Dulux Trade Weathershield Exterior High Gloss is part 3, of a 3 part weather resistant and flexible paint system from Dulux Trade, specifically developed to give long-lasting, high gloss protection for exterior woodwork. It contains a fungicide to inhibit mould growth on the paint film and help it stay cleaner for longer, and provides 8 year weathering durability when used as part of the full Weathershield exterior paint system.

Preparation

Preparation

To get the best results, ensure surfaces to be painted are sound, clean and dry (new surfaces particularly must be fully dry), and free from all defective or poorly adhering material, dirt, grease and wax.

Previously Painted Timber

  1. Thoroughly rub down all surfaces to remove any grey, weathered wood and surface sheen from remaining coatings, and then dust off
  2. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead
  3. Remove all loose and defective coatings, if necessary stripping back to bare wood
  4. Remove and treat any mould, algae, lichen or moss on exterior wood with a suitable mould and mildew cleaner
  5. Remove defective glazing material, clean the rebates and any loose or open joints
  6. Replace any rotten wood and troublesome knots with new timber
  7. Treat any remaining knots in the wood with an appropriate knotting solution
  8. Apply 1 coat of Dulux Trade Weathershield Preservative Primer followed by 1 coat of Dulux Trade Weathershield Exterior Flexible Undercoat

Bare or New Timber

  1. Fill any surface defects, open joints etc, and replace any missing glazing material
  2. Treat all bare wood surfaces with 2 coats of Dulux Trade Weathershield Preservative Primer followed by 2 coats of Dulux Trade Weathershield Exterior Flexible Undercoat
  3. Excess product should be wiped off of the surrounding paintwork

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

This product is for brush application only, and should not be sprayed. Do not use or store in extremes of temperature, and protect from frost. For best colour consistency, purchase sufficient tinted paint for each job including touch-in at one time from the same source.

  1. Stir thoroughly before and periodically during use
  2. Apply 1 coat of Dulux Trade Weathershield Exterior High Gloss, to all primed wood
  3. Where a special process colour is to be used, or where a strong colour change is required, additional coats will be required (see appropriate Dulux Trade colour card)
  4. When painting resinous wood or woodwork with a history of blistering, it is advisable to use light colours only, particularly on south facing elevations

Solid
Having used this product before, I knew what to expect (and hoped it hadn’t changed over the years). We were not disappointed: still an amazing 3-part solution finishing with the hardwearing gloss.
