Overview

Back

Dulux Trade Weathershield Exterior Flexible Undercoat is part 2 of a 3 part weather resistant and flexible paint system specifically developed to give longer lasting protection for exterior woodwork. Ideal for use on exterior wood, metal and plastic surfaces.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

To get the best results, ensure surfaces to be painted are sound, clean and dry (new surfaces particularly must be fully dry).

  1. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead
  2. Remove all loose and defective coatings, if necessary stripping back to bare wood
  3. Remove and treat any mould, algae, lichen or moss with Dulux Trade Weathershield Multi-Surface Fungicidal Wash
  4. Remove defective glazing material, clean the rebates and any loose or open joints
  5. Replace or repair any rotten wood and troublesome knots
  6. Thoroughly rub down all surfaces to remove any grey, weathered wood and surface sheen from remaining surfaces
  7. Apply 1 or 2 coats of an appropriate knotting solution to any remaining knots in the wood
  8. Prime all bare wood with 1 coat of Dulux Trade Weathershield Preservative Primer including any new or bare replacement beading
  9. Excess primer should be wiped off surrounding paintwork
  10. Primer any bare metal with 1 coat of Dulux Trade Metal Primer

Always do a test area before starting any project to test for compatibility and adhesion. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

This product is for brush application only and should not be sprayed. Do not use in temperatures below 5°C.

  1. Stir thoroughly before and periodically during use
  2. Apply 2 full coats of Dulux Trade Weathershield Exterior Flexible Undercoat to all primed wood followed by 1 coat of Dulux Trade Weathershield Exterior High Gloss

Please Note: Where a special process colour is to be used, or where a strong colour change is required additional coats will be required. When painting resinous wood or woodwork with a history of blistering, it is advisable to use light colours only, particularly on south facing elevations.
