Preparation

Preparation

Back

To get the best results, ensure surfaces to be painted are sound, clean, dry and free from dust, dirt and any other surface contaminants.

  • On bare wood, where a strong colour change is required, or when over-coating a factory primed substrate, we recommend priming with Dulux Trade Quick Dry Undercoat
  • Thoroughly rub down previously painted surfaces, using 'wet flatting' methods where possible, then wipe off with a damp, lint-free cloth to remove all traces of sanding dust
  • Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead
  • Treat any knots with an appropriate knotting solution
  • Any surface defects should be filled with an appropriate wood filler
  • When applying water-based paints to surfaces previously decorated with a conventional solvent-based paint, very thorough surface preparation will be necessary

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Do not apply at temperatures below 8°C. Do not use or store in extremes of temperature and protect from frost. Thinning is not usually necessary, but if required add up to 1 part clean water to 20 parts paint.

  1. Stir thoroughly before and periodically during use
  2. Apply with a good quality synthetic paint brush, microfibre roller or spray applicator
  3. For best results if using a brush, lightly dampen both the brush and the surface prior to application to increase flow
  4. Apply 2 full coats on previously coated or suitably primed surfaces
  5. Allow 5 hours drying time between coats

Spray Recommendations

  • Conventional Spray: Satisfactory through most types of conventional spray equipment
  • Airless Spray: A typical recommendation for airless spray application is a minimum working pressure on paint of 133 bars (2000 lb/sq in) with a spray tip size of 0.38mm (15 thou) and a spray tip angle of 65°

Aftercare

Aftercare

To maintain the finish, simply apply a fresh coat of Dulux Trade Quick Dry Satinwood as required, following the Preparation and Application instructions above.

Excellent product
I have used various gloss and satin paints for woodwork, but this has been by far the best paint. I was originally deterred by the cost, but the application and quick dry worked much better than other products. I will definitely use this again.
