Preparation

Preparation

Back

To get the best results, ensure surfaces to be painted are sound, clean and dry (new surfaces particularly must be fully dry) and free from all defective or poorly adhering material, dirt, grease and wax.

New or Bare Wood

  • New or bare surfaces should be primed with an appropriate wood primer, such as Dulux Trade Undercoat
  • Any surface defects should be filled with an appropriate wood filler

Previously Painted Wood

  • Thoroughly rub down previously painted surfaces, using wet flatting methods where possible, then wipe off with a damp, lint-free cloth to remove all traces of sanding dust
  • Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to test product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Do not apply in temperatures below 5°C. This product should not be sprayed. For best colour consistency, purchase sufficient tinted paint for each job including touch in at one time from the same source.

This product is best applied with a good quality synthetic brush or microfibre roller.

  1. Stir thoroughly before and periodically during use
  2. Apply 1 or 2 coats, as required to sufficiently primed woodwork. 2 coats will be required in order to achieve full opacity
  3. Where a second coat of Dulux Trade High Gloss is required, allow 20 hours between coats

Please Note: The nature of white solvent-based paints means that they will all discolour over time. The rate of discolouration is faster on areas with no or low natural or UV light. For longer-lasting whiteness, we recommend the use of a water-based formulation paint such as Dulux Trade Quick Dry Gloss.

Maintenance

To maintain the finish, simply apply a fresh coat of Dulux Trade High Gloss paint as required, following the Preparation and Application instructions above.
