Crown Trade Wood Primer is a premium quality solvent based primer for priming interior and exterior softwood, plywood, chipboard and flakeboard.

To achieve the best results it is important that all surfaces must be sound, clean, suitably dry and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied

New Timber

  1. Rub down with a suitable grade of abrasive paper and round sharp edges to a 1-3mm radius
  2. Remove all dust
  3. Timber with oils/extractives must be swabbed clean with clean methylated spirits
  4. Treat any knots with two coats of fresh knotting
  5. Fill any fixing holes, open joints and shallow surface defects with an appropriate wood filler

Previously Decorated Surfaces

  1. Remove all loose, failing or suspect paint
  2. Remove grey and denatured surfaces by rubbing down with abrasive paper
  3. Feather edges of sound paint, remove all dust
  4. Organic growth must be treated and removed
  5. Remove any defective putty glazing, clean and prime rebates, replacement putties must be allowed to form a hard skin
  6. Treat knots with two thin costs of a fresh knotting
  7. Fill and fixing holes, cracks and shallow surface defects with an appropriate wood filler
  8. Wash remaining sound paint with hot water and liquid detergent solutions to remove any contaminants
  9. Wet abrade to provide a key, rinse with clean water to remove any residues, allow to spot dry
  10. Spot prime bare and filled areas with one coat of Crown Trade Wood Primer

Always make a test area before the application to judge the suitability of the product. Follow the manufacturer's instructions at all times.

Do not apply if the air or substrate temperatures are likely to be below 8°C or to exceed 80% humidity. The moisture content of the substrate should not exceed 18%.

  • Stir well before and during use
  • Application can be performed with either a high quality short or medium pile roller or a good quality synthetic or bristle brush
  • Maintain a wet edge
  • Lay off in the direction of the grain
