Craig and Rose 1829 All Purpose undercoat is a quick drying undercoat suitable for a range of surfaces, providing a durable and hard wearing base layer. Can be applied to walls, ceiling, joinery surfaces, plaster, plasterboards, soft woods, MDF and composite boards producing an opaque layer for the overcoat.

To achieve the optimum results it is important to guarantee the area is structurally sound, clean and dry, being free of any flaws or imperfections
- Clean off any defective, flawed and peeling paint either by sanding or with the use of a paint scraper
- Further precautions should be taken during the surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces as they may contain detrimental levels of lead
- All oil, dirt, grease and dusty or powdery residues are required to be removed by washing the area with an appropriate detergent and then rinsed clean
- Any imperfections, such as cracks and small holes or cavities, need to be be filled and fixed with a suitable filler and then sanded smooth
- Previously painted gloss surfaces need to be lightly abraded to provide a key for Craig and Rose 1829 All Purpose undercoat
- Clean any residue of dust or fragments of debris with washing the project area by using a suitable detergent, then rinse with clean water and allow to fully dry

Always make a test area before the application to judge the suitability of the product. Follow the manufacturer's instructions at all times.
To guarantee the consistency of coverage throughout the application, ensure enough Craig and Rose 1829 All Purpose undercoat is supplied for the project area
Do not apply if the air or surface temperatures are likely to be close to 0ºC as this will seriously hamper the drying process and could damage the surface of the paint
- Blend and stir the paint, ensuring to work through the edges and bottom of the tin to provide an even dispersal of the pigment within the paint
- Application can be performed with either a high quality short or medium pile roller or a good quality synthetic or bristle brush
- The normal finishing process requires only 1 full coat of Crown Trade Full Undercoat but a second coat could be required if the substrate is absorbent
Please note: Craig and Rose 1829 All Purpose undercoat is not suitable for metal surfaces and plastics.
