Overview

Overview

Back

Bona Craft Oil 2K is a high performance, two-component base oil for wooden floors. Uniquely long open time and pot life, fast drying and fast curing. Can be used on its own or overcoated with a lacquer for different gloss levels and increased durability, leaving a practically maintenance free surface. Highly compatible with most wood species, even tricky ones such as cherry, walnut, smoked oak and steamed beech.

Please note: Bona Craft Oil 2K should ideally be applied by an experienced floor finisher for the best results.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure floor is acclimatised to its end-use environment, well sanded, dry and free from any sanding dust, wax and other surface contaminants.

For a more intense and uniform colouration, the wood can be "water popped" prior to applying the craft oil.

  1. Sand and clean the floor
  2. Apply water thinly over the surface with a sponge or microfibre roller
  3. Allow the floor surface to dry overnight before applying the oil

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times.

Allow product to reach room temperature before use. Optimal application conditions are between 20-25°C and 30-50% relative air humidity. High temperatures and low humidity shorten drying time, low temperatures and high humidity lengthen drying time. Minimum temperature for use is 16°C. Ensure good ventilation during application and drying.

  1. If the floor has large or many unfilled gaps, pour the mixed oil into a paint tray and apply from the tray using a microfibre roller
  2. Gap-free floors are quickly and easily treated with a squeegee or a stainless steel trowel
  3. Using a hammer, drive an awl or screwdriver through the top and bottom of the upper container and allow the content to run into the bottom container (min. 1 minute)
  4. Remove the upper container and mix the content thoroughly
  5. Apply and distribute a thin coat of the mixed oil to the floor with a Bona Flat Bladed Trowel
  6. On large floors, work in sections and overlap wet-on-wet
  7. Allow the wood to absorb the oil for 15-30 minutes and then buff the surface with a buffing machine equipped with a red or beige pad
  8. Make another pass with more oil if required to ensure that absorbent areas are saturated
  9. Allow another 15-30 minutes of oil exposure before removing surplus oil with cotton cloths fitted under a buffing machine
  10. The Neutral version dries within 8 hours. All other shades dry within 12 hours*

*Drying time at 23°C, 50% RH - expect longer drying time on tropical wood species, high air humidity and at low temperatures. The room can normally be furnished after 12-24 hours but wait approx. 1 week before covering the surface with carpets. Allow 1-2 days drying before cleaning with wet methods.

Finishing

Finishing

Back

Once dry, Bona Craft Oil 2K can be overcoated with Bona Traffic HD or Bona Traffic HD Anti Slip. The Bona Craft Oil 2K must be buffed before Bona Traffic HD is applied.

Aftercare

Aftercare

Back

Please note: the following methods are for floors which have not been over-coated with lacquer or varnish. For floors which have been over-coated, please follow the recommended maintenance programme for the lacquer or varnish which has been applied.

Regular Cleaning

Clean the floor regularly using a dry mop and/or a vacuum cleaner. When needed, wipe off with a damp mop with Bona Oil Soap added to the cleaning water. Always clean using as dry a method as possible. Wood floors should never be soaked with water as this can damage the finish.

As an alternative cleaning method, the Bona Oiled Floor Spray Mop can also be used. This method is particularly ideal for domestic environments.

Maintenance

For maintenance and upkeep of the surface use Bona Care Oil W. The frequency of this operation is determined by the level of wear and may range from every 3rd year in a domestic environment to a few times a year in a commercial environment.

Can I Varnish over the Bona Craft Oil 2K?

Yes, for additional durability a two-part varnish such as the Bona Traffic HD can be applied over the top of this product.

Is Invisible a colour?

'invisible' is a colour but only as it contains a small percentage of white pigment to keep the flooring looking as light and natural as possible.
