Overview

Overview

Back

Blanchon Original Wood Environment is a quick drying, water-based wood treatment for wooden floors. It combines high performance and durability with environmentally friendly ingredients. Protects wooden floors without substantially changing the natural, unfinished colour of the wood. Suitable for all commonly used types of wood species.

  • Bare Timber - Gives the effect of raw, "untreated" timber
  • Ultra Matt - Brings out the wood grain, whilst providing a warm and rich effect without a sheen
  • Rough Timber - Gives the effect of rough, freshly sawn timber, before it has been treated
  • Natural - Provides a subtle sheen with a slight shimmer which emphasises the wood grain

Please Note: This product may produce a slightly milky or white film effect on darker exotic hardwoods such as Iroko. This is caused by the very small amount of white pigment that has been added to the oil to retain the natural, unfinished look of lighter woods such as Oak, Pine, Larch and Beech.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure that surfaces to be treated are clean, dry and free from all traces of dust, dirt or other surface contaminants.

  • Original Wood Environment should only be applied on surfaces which have been sanded back to bare wood
  • Stripping and de-waxing are not recommended
  • Do not use detergents, bleaches, whiteners or wood floor cleaners to prepare floors
  • Fill any holes, gaps, or splits in the wood with a suitable wood filler
  • Remove all traces of sanding dust

To stain wooden floors and other interior wood prior to oiling, consider Blanchon Wood-Ageing Agent, or an alternative water-based / solvent-based wood stain or dye.

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Blanchon Original Wood Environment is ready to use, do not dilute.

Do not oil wood floors if the temperature is lower than 12°C or if the relative humidity is higher than 85%. Never use on wood where the moisture content is higher than 10%, and only use in well ventilated areas. Keep any aquariums and plants away from the environment where the product is being applied.

  1. Stir thoroughly before and periodically during use
  2. Apply 3 thin coats of Wood Environment oil using a short-haired roller
  3. Use a natural bristle brush for small areas and edges
  4. The oil spreads immediately and does not have to be worked in for any length of time
  5. The slightly milky aspect of Original Wood Environment disappears during the drying process
  6. Floors may be re-coated within 1 hour - do not wait more than 48 hours between coats
  7. Lightly sand or denib using a fine grade sandpaper before the final coat to eliminate any rough patches

Clean applicators immediately after use with water. Wring out cloths and wipe tools thoroughly after use.

Take reasonable precautions with the finish during the first few days after application:

  • Do not cover (use protective sheets) or lay rugs onto the treated area during the 10 days following application
  • Remove dust with a vacuum or broom - do not use impregnated fabrics
  • Appropriate protective measures (i.e. felt pads) should be taken for table and chair legs or other objects which could mark the floor
  • If applicable, a quality doormat at the entrance will be of benefit
  • Immediately wipe up any water or other liquid spillages and take particular care with flower pots

Floors treated with Balnchon Original Wood Environment can be subjected to light foot traffic in 12 hours under normal conditions. Allow 4 to 7 days for the product to fully cure before laying rugs and moving furniture.

Regular Cleaning

  1. Vacuum or dry sweep floors before using a damp mop or cloth
  2. Clean with a microfibre floor mop or cloth using diluted Blanchon Natural Soap
  3. Work on one area at a time, rinse out mops and cloths regularly
  4. Wooden floors should never be saturated with water

Deep Cleaning

For more intensive cleaning, floors can be mopped with diluted Blachon Powerful Cleaner.

Please note: Never use household detergents and cleaners on wooden floors. These products often contain bleach or other chemicals that can degrade or strip the finish from the wood.

Maintenance

To maintain the finish of Blanchon Original Wood Environment, use Blanchon Original Wood Environment Maintenance Oil, as and when required. Take care to apply it with a microfibre mop or clean, lint-free cotton cloth, directly onto the clean and dry oiled floor. If floors are soiled, use Blanchon Powerful Cleaner beforehand.

Repair

Lightly clean damaged or worn areas with a lint-free cloth dampened with white spirit, or gently sand with a 120 grit abrasive. Refinish the affected area by applying 1 or 2 thin coats of Blanchon Original Wood Environment Oil, following the application process above.

Brilliant
Having g bused this tin yet but judging by the exact same tin of oil I used 10 years ago I can vouch 100 percent for it's excellency.

So easy to apply and refresh and gives a great protective finish
Blanchon brings out the colour of wood perfectly without changing it on wooden worktops and flooring. There is no solvent type smell, it’s a doddle to apply and then when it needs refreshing after a couple of years it’s equally easy. Dries in an hour or so the the surface is useable after 4-5 hours if need be. I’ve used it a number of times and I much prefer it to the other major brands.

Some kind of magic!
I don’t know what this is made of but it’s definitely magical stuff! It’s not waxy or oily, and it’s not a varnish but if you follow the instructions you end up with a beautiful wood floor. I can’t vouch for the longevity of the protection because I’ve only just finished applying it but I am confident that it will do the job well. I found it easy to use (I applied it with a brush) and sand down (with a DIY orbital sander) leaving the floor silky smooth. I chose the Bare Wood finish for my solid oak flooring because I wanted it to look as similar as possible to the unfinished oak. Although it is expensive so was the floor which it has definitely enhanced. Also the 5l tin has ample to do 3 coats on 26m2. Fab!

Not Cheap stuff but my god its good
Goes a long way and didn't alter the natural colour of the wood by much. This is by far the best on the market. I did try a couple of other known brands for natural and it was like putting a stain on. This stuff is the best and so hard wearing.
