Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Plus is a water-based, multi-surface coating which delivers benefits usually associated with solvent-based primers. For use on interior and exterior surfaces, such as ceilings, walls, doors, and furniture, and on exterior walls, doors, fascia's, soffits and railings and more. Effectively blocks smoke and water damage stains. Offers excellent adhesion without the need of sanding, to most surfaces, including wood, MDF, plaster, concrete, glass, tile, metal and much more. It contains a biocide which also helps to protect the final paint finish from fungi and mould. Suitable for areas of high humidity, like bathrooms and laundry rooms.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

For the best results, ensure surfaces to be coated are sound, clean and dry, and free from all defective or poorly adhering material such as dirt, grease, paint or adhesives. If needed, clean surface using an appropriate cleaning solution.

  1. Take special precautions during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead
  2. Sand all edges of remaining coating until smooth
  3. Seal new plaster, which has a polished or powdery finish, using Zinsser Gardz
  4. Using an 80 - 100 grit sandpaper, lightly sand exterior timber to remove loose or weathered wood fibres and mill glaze
  5. Clean as much of the existing stain as possible, prior to priming
  6. Remove and treat any mould and mildew on interior surfaces using Zinsser Mould Killer Remover
  7. Fill any nail holes and imperfections with a suitable multi-purpose filler and spot prime the area
  8. Spot prime any knots and resin streaks using Zinsser B.I.N Primer Sealer
  9. All areas of rust should be cleaned using a wire brush

Will Bulls Eye cover lightly waxed woodwork please?

Unfortunately, nothing will stick to wax (other than more wax!) You will need to remove the wax by sanding. You can also try using Woodleys Wax and Polish Remover in-between sanding to aid with the removal.

What is the difference between 1-2-3 Bullseye and 1-2-3 Bullseye Plus?

They are both very similar products which act as a stain killer, primer, and sealer. The Zinsser Bullseye 1-2-3 Plus offers a rust resistance guarantee so can be very handy when using over some metals. Ferrous metals generally have a high carbon content, which as a result, make them vulnerable to rust when exposed to the elements. As the Bullseye products are water-based they will be suspectable to this.

Can you varnish on top of Bullseye?

This product is designed to sit underneath paint. It has not been tried and tested with a varnish but as this is also a film forming product, it is likely to work. Try a test area first.

Is the Bullseye product alkali-resistant and can it be used on an internal wall?

Alkali is normally excess mineral salts within the brick or masonry percolating to the surface. if painted like this, it can cause extensive paint failure or salt deposits on the surface. Dry brush the surface using a stiff bristle brush to remove any loose materials and coat using a resistant alkali primer such as Zinsser Bullseye Plus which is alkali resistant to 12.5pH. This is ideal for an internal wall needing resistance.

Can you paint water-based paint over Bullseye 1-2-3 Plus?

Absolutely. The Zinsser Bullseye 1-2-3 Plus is ideal as a basecoat/ primer underneath both solvent and water-based paints for great opacity.
