Back

Sandtex Microseal Smooth Masonry Paint is suitable for use on most sound, dry exterior masonry surfaces including Rendering, Roughcast, Pebbledash, Concrete, Building Blocks, Facing Bricks, Emulsion or Masonry Painted Surfaces.

For a more textured finish, try Sandtex Microseal Textured Masonry Paint.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

All surfaces must be sound, clean, dry and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of Sandtex paint.

  • New surfaces usually require little preparation, but must be completely dried out before painting
  • Treat any organic growth with a suitable mould and mildew cleaner, before brushing down the masonry surfaces to avoid spreading live spores - re-apply after brushing if necessary
  • Remove all loose and flaking material by scraping or brushing with a stiff bristle brush (not wire)
  • Chalking, weathered, powdery and porous surfaces should be brushed down and treated with a suitable stabilising solution

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to check product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times. Do not apply if there is a risk of rain or frost or if the temperature will fall below 8°C (46°F) during drying.

Please Note: This product is not suitable for common or fletton type bricks.

  1. Stir the paint thoroughly before and periodically during use.
  2. Apply Sandtex Smooth Masonry Paint with a masonry brush or exterior roller
  3. For best results, 2 coats are recommended
  4. Leave 3-4 hours drying time between coats
  5. When over-painting darker colours an extra coat may be required

Back
Can this paint be used in a spray gun?

Yes, we recommend application by either a good quality masonry brush, exterior roller, or airless spray.

Can you use Sandtex Smooth Masonry Paint on Monocouche?

Monocouche can be painted to change its colour or refresh its appearance. Sandtex do not list monocouche specifically as a commonly used substrate so we would advise a test area before use.

Will this product be ok for external wood?

It is not designed for this kind of substrate. Instead, consider Sandtex 10 Year Exterior Gloss Paint.

Can I use Sandtex Smooth Masonry Paint for interior bricks in a shed?

If the bricks are sound and dry then yes, this is a great option.

Is the Sandtex Microseal Paint thin or is it as good as the Sandtex Trade High Cover Smooth Paint?

The retail version is slightly thicker than the trade paint to make it easier to apply for the less experienced user.

Can I paint a concrete floor outside with Sandtex Smooth Masonry Paint?

We wouldn't advise this paint on this type of surface as it isn't durable enough under foot.

Is the Sandtex Microseal Ultra Smooth Masonry Paint any good for an internal garage breeze block wall or is there a better option?

Sandtex Smooth Masonry Paint is suitable for use on an internal garage breeze block wall, as it provides a durable, smooth finish designed to withstand various conditions, which is beneficial in spaces like garages.

Perfect for my needs
I had an old terracotta bust that prior to my buying it, had been spattered with paint over the head and shoulders. The paint beautifully covered the spatters, and I managed to blend it in so that it is now not at all noticeable.

Quality paint, easy to apply
I ordered this paint as it was recommended by a few people, not for concrete as you would assume but for exterior timber. I've painted a pergola and a filter house for my koi pond. It went on so easily and has covered very well with 2 coats. Not exactly what it is as but plenty of people use it on garden timber structures. Fast delivery from this company as well.
