Preparation

Preparation

Back

All surfaces must be sound, clean, dry and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of Sandtex Trade paint.

  • New surfaces usually require little preparation, but porous surfaces will need coating with a suitable Stabilising Solution prior to finishing
  • Treat any organic growth using an appropriate Fungicide solution, before brushing down the masonry surfaces to avoid spreading live spores - re-apply after brushing if necessary
  • Remove all loose and flaking material by scraping or brushing with a stiff bristle brush (not wire)
  • Fill any defects or cracks in the masonry surface using a suitable filler
  • Chalking, weathered, powdery surfaces should be brushed down and treated with a suitable stabilising solution
  • Clean previously coated gloss surfaces with warm soapy water and wet abrade to form a sound key, rinsing thoroughly afterwards

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to test product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the container at all times.

Do not apply at temperatures below 8°C or when rain is likely. Do not use or store in extremes of temperature and protect from frost.

  1. Stir thoroughly before and periodically during use
  2. Apply evenly and consistently to maintain a 'wet edge', using a good quality synthetic bristle brush or medium pile or long pile roller - depending on the surface texture
  3. Can be applied using an airless spray, minimum pressure 2000psi (136 bar) and minimum tip size 0.018
  4. Use Wet strength masking tape to mask off areas
  5. Apply 2 even coats
  6. Allow to dry for 4 hours between coats

Cleaning Equipment

Clean brushes, rollers and any spillages immediately after use, using clean water.
