Overview

Sandtex Quick Dry Stabilising Solution is a water based treatment for exterior surfaces that have become porous, dusty or weathered over time. It penetrates into unstable surfaces to help create a firmer and more consistent base before decorating.

Ideal for use on masonry and other exterior substrates showing signs of surface breakdown, it helps reduce excessive porosity and prepares surfaces for subsequent coats of paint. The quick drying formula also helps keep exterior projects moving efficiently, particularly when working in changeable weather conditions.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Ensure that surfaces are clean, dry and free from loose material, dirt, grease and any previous coatings that are flaking or peeling. Porous or weathered areas should be brushed down thoroughly to remove unstable surface material before application.

  • If there is mould, algae or fungal growth present, treat the surface with Sandtex Fungicidal Wash before decorating
  • Remove any loose or flaking material while leaving sound chalky surfaces intact for stabilisation
  • Repair cracks, holes and damaged areas using a suitable exterior filler such as Sandtex Ready Mixed Masonry Filler
  • Allow all repaired areas to fully dry before applying the stabilising solution
  • Protect surrounding surfaces, plants and exterior fixtures from splashes during application
  • Do not apply to damp surfaces or in temperatures below 8°C

Application

Application

Back

Always do a test area before starting any project to check suitability and compatibility. Do not apply in damp conditions, during rain or when temperatures are below 8°C.

  • Shake the container thoroughly before use to ensure the contents are fully mixed
  • Apply directly from the container without dilution
  • Use a good quality brush such as the ProDec Premier Synthetic Brush for even coverage and controlled application
  • Apply liberally to porous or chalky areas, allowing the solution to penetrate into the surface
  • A second coat may be required on highly porous or heavily weathered surfaces
  • Allow the stabilising solution to dry fully before applying subsequent paint coatings
  • Clean brushes and equipment immediately after use with warm soapy water

1) What does Sandtex Quick Dry Stabilising Solution do?
Sandtex Quick Dry Stabilising Solution is designed to seal and stabilise porous, chalky and weathered exterior surfaces before painting. It penetrates into the surface to help create a firmer and more stable base for subsequent paint coatings.

2) What surfaces can it be used on?
It is suitable for exterior masonry and other porous exterior surfaces that have become dusty, powdery or weathered over time. Always test a small area before full application to check suitability and compatibility.

3) Does Sandtex Quick Dry Stabilising Solution need to be diluted?
No. The product is supplied ready for use and should be applied directly from the container without dilution.

4) How is it applied?
Sandtex Quick Dry Stabilising Solution is typically applied by brush to allow the product to fully penetrate porous or unstable surfaces. Apply evenly and allow the surface to absorb the solution before applying further coats if required.

5) How many coats are recommended?
One coat is often sufficient for lightly porous surfaces, however heavily weathered or highly absorbent areas may require a second coat for best results.

6) Is Sandtex Quick Dry Stabilising Solution water based?
Yes. It is a water based stabilising solution with a low odour formulation and tools can be cleaned after use with warm soapy water.

7) Can it be painted over?
Yes. Once fully dry, the treated surface can be overcoated with suitable exterior masonry paints and coatings.
