Overview

Sandtex Fungicidal Wash is an exterior surface treatment designed to deal with contamination caused by organic growth on outdoor surfaces before painting or renovation work begins. Suitable for use on masonry, render, brickwork, concrete, stone and patios, it helps improve surface condition prior to decorating and maintenance projects.

The formula is suitable for both professional and home use, making it ideal for exterior walls, paths, driveways and other exposed areas where damp conditions can encourage surface contamination. Easy to apply and simple to work with, Sandtex Fungicidal Wash is a practical solution for exterior surface preparation and ongoing property maintenance.

For porous or chalky exterior surfaces, follow with Sandtex Quick Drying Stabilising Solution before painting to help improve surface stability and coating adhesion.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Surfaces should be clean, stable and free from loose material, dirt and heavy surface contamination before treatment begins.

  • Remove loose paint, dirt and surface contamination with a suitable cleaner such as before application
  • Scrape or brush away algae, mould, moss and lichen using a stiff bristle brush, such a the Woodleys Exterior Block Brush
  • Avoid using wire brushes that may damage masonry or decorative surfaces
  • Heavily affected areas may require pressure washing before treatment
  • Allow surfaces to dry after cleaning and before applying decorative coatings
  • Cover nearby plants and exterior surfaces to protect against accidental splashes

Application

Application

Back

Always test a small area before starting any project to check suitability and compatibility. Do not apply during wet weather, frost or when rain is expected before the surface has fully dried.

  • Apply liberally using a synthetic or stiff nylon bristle like the ProDec Masonry Brush
  • Work the solution well into affected areas to fully saturate the surface
  • Pay particular attention to heavily contaminated areas and deep textured surfaces
  • Leave the treatment for 24 hours to allow the fungicidal action to work effectively
  • Rinse or scrub away remaining organic residue with clean water and a stiff bristle brush
  • Where contamination remains visible, apply a further treatment once the surface is dry

OK
Used to clean off algae from rendered house before painting it did a good job but the area was not too bad. I also used it on a driveway and patio before pressure washing. The algae was much thicker than on the house. I left it 24 hrs but the pressure washer still struggled a bit so I’ll give another product a go next time.
