Back

Ronseal Ultimate Protection Hardwood Garden Furniture Stain is for use on all hardwood garden furniture, including Teak, Oak and Mahogany, and all outdoor smooth planed wood.

Please Note: This product cannot be used on previously painted garden furniture.

Preparation

Preparation

Back

Make sure it is a warm, dry day, above 10°C and that it is not going to rain. Ensure that the wood to be treated is clean, dry and free from dust, loose dirt and any other surface contaminants.

  1. Weathered, varnished or oiled wood will need to be sanded back to bare wood
  2. Even if furniture is new, a light sanding will get rid of any rough splinters
  3. Remove any sanding dust and give the surface a quick wipe with a lint-free cloth dampened with white spirit to remove any dirt or grease
  4. Any old, decayed, loose wood must be removed before treating the affected area with Ronseal Wet Rot Wood Hardener prior to filling
  5. Any existing woodworm can be eradicated with Ronseal Woodworm Killer
  6. Fill any gaps in the wood with Ronseal High Performance Wood Filler or Ronseal Multi Purpose Wood Filler

Application

Application

Back

Always do a small test area before beginning any project to assess colour and compatibility. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Stir thoroughly before use.

  1. Apply Hardwood Garden Furniture Stain with a good quality synthetic paint brush in the direction of the wood grain
  2. Apply 3 full coats to get the 3 Year Colour Guarantee
  3. Leave 4 hours between each coat
  4. If you get any stain on yourself, wash it off with warm, soapy water
  5. It is best to leave your furniture a couple of days before using it, to allow the stain to fully harden

Cleaning Equipment

Scrape as much stain off your brush as you can, then wash it in warm soapy water. It is best to clean any spills up straight away while they are still wet. Do not pour any left over stain down the drain or into watercourses.

Aftercare

Regular Cleaning

Wooden garden furniture can be wiped down with a damp lint-free cloth and periodically cleaned with Ronseal Garden Furniture Cleaner.

Maintenance

If over time the finish becomes worn or the colour begins to fade, simply apply a fresh coat of Ronseal Ultimate Protection Hardwood Garden Furniture Stain, following the Application instructions above.

F.A.Q.

F.A.Q.

Back
Is the clear Ronseal Hardwood Stain actually clear once applied?

If you select the 'clear natural matt' option, this is a clear, unpigmented product which will only darken the timber as it is applied, much like water would. No colour is added to the product.

Can I spray Ronseal Ultimate Protection Hardwood Garden Furniture Stain?

This product is only advised to be applied using a brush such as ProDec Premier Synthetic Brush.

Can I use Ronseal Hardwood Garden Furniture Stain on decking?

We do not recommend using this on decking as it will not be durable enough under foot. Instead consider a good quality preservative such as Ronseal Total Wood Preservative followed by a suitable Decking Treatment
